THE DISEASE didn't express itself the usual way, at first. Gembond is known for, well, the gems -- not little flickers of shine between the scales that could just as easily be the result of overzealous grooming as infection. By the time Temirulan realised he was sick, the gembond had already bit down into the tips of his fingers, fusing the flesh and bone into a single point of shining crystal. He could form rainbows in the air with his hands, if he angled them just right. He left the Sea soon after the diagnosis (and lack of cure) was confirmed, and headed for the Wasteland. He'd heard of doctors there with an unorthodox approach to medicine who could, sometimes, get results. A sometimes was better than never. He's moved into the Flat, where -- surprisingly -- no one seems to give his half-crystallised appearance a second thought. The local doctor takes samples and gives him various potions and lotions, and he keeps a journal of the progression of disease for -- someone's benefit, he hopes. In the interim, he's found his gembond gives him a unique sensitivity to godbone, what folks around here call Pillar Shard ore. While his doctor won't accept payment for her services, she does take donations, and Temirulan uses whatever the local mining company pays him to at least keep the lights on at the Poorwill Clinic. |
IMPRESSIONS
Slight of build even by spiral standards; some might joke that he could just turn sideways and disappear, but they won't. He has a soft seriousness to him, a calculating air that gives pause to the shifty and eases the hearts of the wary. His voice is soft, a little raspy, and when he speaks the crystallised molars in his mouth produce a soft chime as they clink together.

RELATIONSHIPS
RIBAULDEQUIN is the Poorwill Clinic doctor and the only one as dedicated to solving his condition as Temirulan is himself. Dr Quin, as she insists he calls her, matches his seriousness with a touch of the absurd, as is her wont -- but he never gets the sense that she underestimates the severity of the issue at hand.BILBEMEL has a natural tendency to gravitate toward the infirm, a trait which Temirulan has noticed but never commented on. The younger spiral's company is not unwelcome, it's not like Temirulan is going to complain about having someone help him open jars of honey for tea or steady him on the stairs. Bilbemel's natural non-judgmental helpfulness is endearing rather than chafing. Temirulan is certain he hasn't a thought in his head otherwise, but he can't rightly hold that against him. |
