Jaspyra

"Jas Jas Jas!! Did you hear??" came an excited voice from above, getting louder and closer with each word.
Scrabbling to take off her geologist's lens before the inevitable, Jaspyra only just managed it before Alesia crashed into her at near full-tilt from the sky. They landed in a mass of wings and limbs, both of their bags spilling into the dust in a mass of tumbling stones.

"Alle, please..." Jaspyra groaned through clenched jaws, owing to the skydancer's foot on her muzzle.

"Did you hear, did you hear??" Alesia said, wiggling excitedly as she tried to get up, stumbling over Jaspyra's tail. When the skydancer got up and began bouncing excitedly, only then did the disgruntled wildclaw get up and dust herself off.

"Hear what, exactly?" Jaspyra asked, proud of how much irritation she kept out of her voice.

"Oh it's wonderful!! The Earthshaker led an expedition of dragons to a brand new breed! They're-"

"Let me guess, a new Ancient?" Jaspyra interrupted.

"Nono, that's just the thing!! They're a modern, crafted only recently by the Earthshaker himself!"

Jaspyra's eyes widened as realization struck her. "But there haven't been any more of us since...well, since I joined the clan! And they're an Earth breed?" She was excited, but she was older than Alesia and knew how to contain herself.

"I've been preoccupied with the Light relics we've been finding and the stones here, did Oriasis take our clan to join the excavation?"

Alesia nodded vigorously. "Mhm, me and Terradon responded immediately! It was a long dig, but-"

"Do we have any here??" Jaspyra asked, decidedly less composed now. She started shoving her rocks back in her bag, not giving much discrimination between which were hers and which were Alesia's, but the green dragon didn't seem to pay much mind.

"Yes, and every single clan that participated in the dig got one! They were statues, but now they're dragons and they are so. cool. looking!!"

"I can't believe I missed this! Who is the dragon that came from the statue we got?" Jaspyra said.

"Oh, her names Lunastra and she's so cool! She emerged as an adult, not like me, whose egg was just found and then raised by my moms-"

"That's weird, fully adult?" Jaspyra interjected. "Can you take me to her?" she asked, spreading her wings in invitation.

"For sure!! Oh I'm just so excited for you to meet her!" Alesia answered, taking off in one swift motion, Jaspyra following close behind. "You can probably help lots!! Since you're so old, and experienced, and wise, and-"

"Yes, I get it," Jaspyra chuckled. As they flew and Alesia chattered on excitedly, Jaspyra couldn't help but feel the wind in her wings and begin to truly enjoy the day. Sometimes, with her focus so solidly on the Earth, she forgot the simple joys of flight.
