ananke's parents were not good dragons. it was plain enough to see. her mother leant money to desperate dragons, and her father collected it back when it was due. and though ananke was raised in the burrick, coddled by thieves and criminals, something about knowing that was in her blood did something to her as a child. she was desperate to get away from such poor morality, though it was in her every pore. but there is not much good done in the burrick, for the building didn't stay in one spot long enough to scrape up the good, only shelter the fleeing and starving. the mercenaries, though not good themselves, often did good things for the right amount of money. that was as close as ananke could get. so she takes up the blade. and she tries to cut up what she didn't like about her blood. how skilled she was with the shortsword! how fearless! how intimidating! the hellreek mercenaries would have paid her quite the sum to run with them. but oh, how she feared that poison blood she thinks she has, crawling under her skin. how she thinks of it like dirt under her skin, every time she thinks she hunts down the wrong drake for a handful of treasure. she doesn't want money, she wants good. she wants to be good so badly it flushes out all the bad and makes her shine from the inside. she can't have that at the burrick, but it's the only family she's known, the only life. it's hard, but she stands outside until the clocktower chimes, and when the burrick blinks out of view and far away, the whole word stretches before her.
