Koun collects seashells. They actually live quite a ways away from any sort of moving water, beach, or shoreline of any kind. The only reason that Koun even thought to collect seashells, then, goes all the way back to a tree, a bird, and a chance encounter. A few months ago, they had been building a snowman when a white crow lighted upon the top of the still unfinished snowman. At that point in time, the bird had only been carrying one thing: a rather large seashell, which it proceeded to drop on top of the snowman's head. Acting like a little hat, Koun was surprised to see that it complimented the snowman surprisingly well.
From that day forward, Koun began to see that crow from time to time. Perhaps it had been around beforehand, and was simply around more often than ever, but at least, they had never noticed it before. And this crow would leave seashells here and there, almost always conspicuously placed on something that Koun had interacted with recently. Since these were small seashells, gifts of nature brought by the crow, Koun amassed a collection that could be fit into a round stone hollow that they had behind their nest.
On an excursion out onto the slopes, Koun happened to find the opposite of a small seashell. This one was extremely large, big enough to act like a hat for the Icewarden! So Koun took it back to their nest, and stared at it, wondering what to do. A few weeks later, they discovered the answer when the crow from before was caught staring up at them, having made a nest using the large seashell.
