A performer specializing in the art of kabuki, Mai dedicates countless hours to the study of the stories and routines, as well as the history involved in the shows. After learning about the amphitheater and troupe of actors present in Sōlis, she figured it was the perfect place to engage in her passions. She lives on the edge of town by the sea with her partner, Kokkai.

On an evening after a performance, she was resting by the shore. In her fatigued state, she failed to notice the powerful riptide current, and was swept out to sea. Being unable to swim, she struggled to find her way up to the water's surface. Luckily, Kokkai happened to be nearby, noticing her struggle, and swam out to rescue her. The pair grew closer after this event, eventually falling in love. Mai often boasts about him being her savior, and wholeheartedly believes this to be true, even if she plays it up a little.

Despite her terrifying experience, Mai still has an intense love for the sea. She refuses to let her own carelessness dampen her interest, and will spend some of her free time sitting along the shore, enjoying the scenery. Kouki, as she affectionately calls him, is always at her side, ensuring her safety near the ocean's waves. No matter how violent the currents may be on any given day, they seem to settle when he's around...

As the clan's expert in all things kabuki, Mai often is the director for the other performers as well as being a character in the plays herself. She often has to be goaded into taking lead roles, as she doesn't want to take the spotlight from others. Her fellow actors don't want her to be pushed to the sidelines, though, considering this is her specialty. They all have plenty of time to shine during other shows, after all!

Mai is friendly with many of her clanmates, especially her fellow performers. She can converse with nearly anyone, adapting to others personalities with ease. However she gets socially exhausted quite easily, needing to retreat back home after a long day. Previously, despite how upbeat she appeared, when Mai was alone it seemed as if she was rather melancholic. But ever since Kouki has been around, this side of her seems to have faded; others can see how genuinely happy she is.
