Biography

Can you hear us? —it reaches through

When a dragon dies their soul dissolves into hundreds and hundreds of butterflies. Though newborn in the mortal realm, they know where they must go. The dew dries off their wings and they alight, flying into the edge of vision, in great swarms that sheath the sky in light.

The mourners who search still for fragments of their beloved sometimes submerge themselves into the swarm, but all they will find is the beating of hundreds of wings, apathetic towards their pleas. Some capture them, in claws, in jars, in enchantments, but they disappear upon the touch like the yolk of a disturbed egg.

Not all of them make it. It is not uncommon to find tattered wings and broken vessels on the trail to the land of the dead. But they will always return, as seed returns to soil. It is best not to disturb them, to avert the eyes when on the horizon a cloud of butterflies drifts past, for the dawn belongs to them, their first light, their last.

a foggy mirror. But it touches not the other side.
