Sometimes, it's difficult to ignore the irony. She could pass for a natural in the Viridian Labyrinth, but her core has always been fire. Red hot and quick and bursting through her skin, sometimes. Maybe that's why she ended up in a water lair, watching the rise and fall of the tide and watching the bubbling, blink-and-you'll-miss-it eruptions of Ista's local submarine volcano.

She swirls them all together, trying to find a way to make it fit: the green of the banner and the antlers - the deer won't miss them - for her parents' home; the mysterious, vague manner of the water, and some extra feathers to help it along; fire in word and wit and deed. Sometimes it even works.

She can't help but feel that she's missing something, though. Some key part of her that's just out of reach.... It's strange to think she might not know herself as well as she thinks she does. How could she not, after all? But her dreams are filled with lights and sounds and warmth, the like of which she has never known: the feeling of some small beast scuttling around her shoulders, the breeze tugging at her feathers. A moment of bracing herself, accepting the fear and pain and... what? Bracing herself for what?

The dream drips through her claws like water, and understanding slips back into the dark recesses of her mind.

Marut is (again, unknowingly) the former dryad of a black pine tree, that was crushed in a battle between clans. She took on draconic form after drifting as a spirit for some time, and is searching for her memories.
