Biography
Astraeus had seen many things in his time. In his clan, he's known as "The One Who Knows", because his many years in Sornieth have gifted him an air of understanding that is unparalleled amongst his clanmantes. Born on the wonderful Starfall Isles, Astraeus has lived in many lands throughout his time, but currently enjoys his life in the Scarred Wasteland. All this knowledge, and these experiences, he chooses to express in his Long Form Poetry, which never fails to come out eloquent and beautiful, the words flowing like the waters in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, the paper being but a vessel for the sparks of wisdom, intelligence, and creativity melding together into majestic art. His chamber is filled with neat shelves, containing perfectly rolled and impeccably kept scrolls, organized by both subject and age.
Do not be fooled, however. His hoard is also filled with stories, in the form of items he has collected over many years. The hatchlings in his clan enjoy hearing these tales, and playing with the objects, such as Astraeus's Iridescent Cloth which, while now mainly a tool for dress up, was once gifted to Astraeus by a wise warrior in the Sandswept Delta, "But that's a story for another time", he says with a wink when asked about the perfect, flowing piece of fabric.
Still, one story he never hesitates to tell is when he "Valiantly triumphed in the Great Contest of Devouring. That day, he outwitted and out performed against the best in Sornieth, defeating legends such as The Black Hole, while proving himself against dragons many times his size. Imperials, Guardians, and Ridgebacks all giving in before I felt any resistance. Moreover, I did this all without any pain or negative effects, earning myself not just this Good Eater Award, but honor as well."
While Astraeus's stories are never tall tales, he does occasionally stretch details for the younger hatchlings. He does it because he knows that his adventures inspire the other dragons, and if he can encourage others to experience the world like he did, then he has succeeded.
Curiously, these is one story that he has only been asked once, by Lionel, a small Gaoler who never seemed to grow.
"Mr. Astraeus," the hatchling asked with wide eyes, "Why did you start adventuring? I've heard the Starfall Isles are very nice, why would you leave?"
Astraeus smiled before responding, "Lionel, I adored living in my homeland, but I wanted more. I wanted to see what I had read about in books. My days as a hatchling were filled with hearing about the world, scouring various libraries to learn all that there was to learn. Eventually, that ran out. I had read every story I was allowed, studied every tome. Now child, do not think that this was any small act. On the contrary, it took me a very large portion of my early life.
"Now, perhaps it was my desire to see where my ancestors, the Skydancers had originated, or maybe I was drawn by the sense of excitement said to exist there, but I greatly desired to see the Windswept Plateau, but that's a story for another time, dinner for you and the other hatchlings should be soon."
