Prologue: Help, There's a Goddess in My Head

Sycamore clutched the vial in his talons so tightly he was afraid it would shatter. Behind him, the two-headed creature’s screech echoed through the canyon. He didn’t have to look behind him to know that it was gaining. “WE'LL SHOW MOTHER WE ARE STRONG!” the creature shrieked. “Yeah, I DON’T CARE, you abomination! What in Sornieth are you?” he internally screamed. The Abberation. They are a mistake. A voice growled in his mind. Destroy them! Sycamore would’ve assumed it was the Plaguebringer speaking in his mind. After all, it was her weird little sickness jar that he was flying away with. But the voice- it was not the voice of the ancient plague wyrm. Somehow he realized that this was the Gladekeeper. Yes, you understand! Much smarter than my past... clients, by the way. My sister intends on wiping out your civilizations, your forests- your lives. All with that vial you’re holding Sycamore looked down at the unassuming little jar, which was pulsating with a thick, blood-red liquid. Should that liquid ever be released, your civilization would most likely die. Your weak mortal bodies would succumb to the sickness, and the world as you know it will be destroyed. And I should suspect that if the other flights find out, they’ll start pulling out their superweapons, which could result in all-out war. Yeah, wonderful! That's not gonna help me if these so-called Abberation kill me and get the jar! The nature goddess in his mind seemed to hesitate for a moment
Chapter 1 -
Entangled
Location: Several miles away from the Plague-Nature border

"Well?" Erebus prompted. The Gladekeeper had gone silent, as if thinking- maybe wondering if he was worth it. The Abberation was on his heels now- he would never make it to his home realm without conflict. Get to the ground. I will take care of the rest.Erebus dove towards the carpet of greenery that had struggled out of the wasteland, the confused Aberration following him. By the way, there are more of them, the Gladekeeper spoke calmly. WHAT? Erebus shrieked in his mind, looking back and scanning the horizon. Around four of the creatures followed, in a disorganized formation- but he had seen how powerful these Ancients could be.

Erebus hit the ground at full speed, digging his claws into the vine-covered ground and twisting around. The Abberation crashed into him at full speed, caught off-guard as it shrieked in surprise. It wriggled out of his grasp, snapping its jaws at his face as he narrowly dodged, leaping back. As he prepared a counterattack, the creature's twin head cast an attack, piercing the ground below with bony spines and large, distinctly fleshy tendrils piecing through the greenery and snatching at his talons. Avoiding the pulsing ground, Erebus leapt at the creature, but it spat in his face, stinging his eyes as he landed clumsily, blinded.

Erebus drew in Breath from the air around him- smoky tendrils of Shadow magic, giving him strength and clearing his mind. A dark mist crept out of the ground, blanketing the wasteland as the blinded Ancient whirled around madly, shrieking a challenge. Erebus ducked through the mist, coming up from behind the creature and leapt at it, pinning it to the ground.

Zahir speaking:
"We're not sure how this happened, but sycamore is turning into... a tree? We have to maintain the branches to keep them from taking over... at least, we would, if they weren't connected to him. (we found out the hard way.) He was seemingly "blessed" by the Gladekeeper. He can hear the grass scream when he steps on it, the trees shriek as they are cut down, paper whimpering as he writes on it. A blessing... totally."
