The Masked Minstrel
|
Sobriquet: Khang Occupation: Minstrel Battle Style: Defensive Relations: - TBD Notes: - The echoing hum of a haunting tune, the careful strumming of a macabre lyre, the faint trails of evergreen will-o-wisps hanging in the air—these are all signs that the mysterious, masked minstrel Khang is drawing ever near. For some, this is nothing but another ship passing in the night; for others, this can only be their worst nightmare come true. - In most circles, Khang is no more than a humble traveling minstrel, with a voice as beautiful as his "silver-string" lyre. Those familiar with old legends, however, will know of the legendary masked figure who lures dying souls to their final rest with his bittersweet melodies and skeletal lyre. For what reason he claims these souls, no one knows, but storytellers old and young share the belief that the freakish green will-o-wisps said to always accompany him are the souls that he has collected. In other words, it is believed that there is no blissful afterlife for the souls collected by the Minstrel but rather a fate that may be worse than eternal damnation itself. - Though some mythologists have claimed Khang to be a reaper-like figure or a representation of Death itself, the unknown truth is that he was a man made immortal as a punishment centuries ago, and has since dedicated his never-ending days to capturing the souls of the dying to spite his divine punishers. The captured souls, in return, empower and sustain his abilities, thereby allowing him to continue his spiteful escapade around Sornieth. - Despite the macabre nature of his venture, the Masked Minstrel—who simply goes by "Khang" in his day-to-day life—is actually quite an amicable man. Almost every word about himself is assuredly an ever-changing lie, true, but the living souls he encounters are always none the wiser. It is hard to tell whether or not this is a mere public persona meant to disguise his true intentions or a heartfelt attempt at imitating the mortal man he used to be. |
