Ymir is the loyal and hardy first mate of Amelia. The mirror was drawn to the sea ever since an attempt in his youth to hunt a maren lurking in the shallows. Unaware of the dangers of the peoples, Ymir was nearly drowned in combat and had to be rescued by his clanmates. Stubborn as a Snapper, the Mirror tried countless times to capture the same haughty being, only to be pushed close to death each time.
The clan eventually had enough of his ridiculous grudge, questioning what he had to prove by risking his life so carelessly. Ymir felt that this plight was about more than just securing a meal, but about his honor. The clan offered him a choice: drop his dangerous vendetta against this insignificant maren, or leave the clan. Ymir, with his pride and stubborness, strode out of his clan and never looked back. That night, alone by the shore, he feasted on maren.
Things came to head when the Mirror wandered in his exile towards the coast of the Everbloom Gardens, where he found the ad for crewmate membership on an unseeming ship called The Maren. Feeling that the ship's name was nothing less than a divine message, Ymir took up the ad and never looked back.
He was but one of many ambitious dragons to take up Captain Amelia's flyers, but is the only one to last more than a dozen expeditions. He feels at his best when bracing against fierce waves or going sword-to-sword with rival pirates: specifically his nemesis, Captain Dreadbeard's first mate, Rivaille. Ymir's keen sense of sight and deep loyalty towards his crew make him an indespensible asset to the ship. He's always the first to spot enemy ships from afar, and is a ruthless fighter when his Captain is threatened.
