Wieska
___Guardians are huge protective creatures and usually live in small groups, although many prefer complete seclusion. ___When a guardian dragon comes of age, they instinctively looks for a reason to protect something for the rest of their life. Any Guardian has to leave their native clan and to go on a journey that can stretch for decades, called the Search. This journey usually marks the last time the new adult will ever see their original clan. During this time, they will tirelessly wander in search of a worthy person, object or place to guard. Most of the Guardians don't know what their duty will be until they encounter it, but as soon as the Guardian discovers it, the new life begins. ___Wieska sits alone in the temple. Like so many times before. She is usually the only guard in a disarray of scholars, priests and believers. All of them, however, have come together to celebrate, to worship, and to protect the massive pink flower that grows in the middle of this structure. The ceilings are high, but the flower is almost even higher. Its immense size must be a blessing, or a sign, from the Gladekeeper. At least, that’s what most dragons here seem to believe. Wieska surely believes it. But she’s not that trusting when it comes to other dragons just wandering in and out without supervision. If this is truly a sign, or a blessing, someone should stand guard. And by the Eleven if Wieska was the one to do that, she would do so with pride. ___Today was no different. Dragons enter and exit, prayers are made and research is done. All to preserve the flower as long as possible of course. To keep it safe from outside influences. Wieska sees a small hatchling follow a couple of priests. Nothing out of the ordinary, but somehow she’s unsure about this one. She stands up and approaches the little child, a small Imperial with big, green eyes. “Hello there, are you lost?”, Wieska asks. The hatchling stares at her, but doesn’t say anything. One of the priests does, however. “Don’t pester the child Wieska. It is cold out, let it warm up a little.” Wieska knows better than to argue, but puffs up her feathers in defense anyway. “Sure, whatever.”, she mutters. She walks back to her perch and sits down again. And lies down. And falls asleep. ___As Wieska wakes up, the world around her is surprisingly quiet. She feels something nudging her, and opens her eyes to the little Imperial trying to wake her up. “Something is wrong!”, the hatchling whispers. Wieska gets up immediately and sees the flower. Withering. Its petals fall to the floor, one of them falls right in front of her. She picks it up. “What happened?’, she asks the child. “The priests started chanting, and suddenly the flower started dying.”, the Imperial replied, still whispering. Wieska looks at the priests surrounding the flower, still chanting. She grabs the child.
“We have to go. Now.”
