Ever since the fateful arrival of Maxine, Cattail's clan has been no stranger to taking in wayward Nephilim. But for two of its own most high-profile dragons to converge, to decide to produce a Nephilim of their own, came with its own host of risks. It was not an easy decision, the clan convening to weigh the case presented by local hunters Dean and Castiel-their combined power and love should be enough to protect their child and the clan as a whole from purist Angel dragons, surely? They'd adopted and raised one before, true, but this was different. Ultimately moved by the pair's devotion, Cattail ruled in their favor, and thus a plan of surrogacy and angelic magic was set in motion. Mariel was the end result of that effort.

Mariel was unusual from even the moment she hatched. Her vibrant blue eyes quickly earned her the nickname "little bright eyes" from her father, a title she claims to remember from the first time Dean murmured it right after she hatched. In fact, Mariel says that she remembers each and every thing that she's ever experienced, owing to an eidetic memory. Among her Nephilim talents is the ability to enter the dreams of other dragons as they sleep, watching and intervening where able. When she sleeps, Mariel embarks on nightly pilgrimages through the dreams of her clanmates and beyond, observing and cataloguing the sights and meanings of others' most personal visions. Invasive as it may be, Mariel treats these dreams with utmost respect and uses them to notice patterns and analyze the dreams of those who seek her knowledge. Some even come to her requesting that she visit their dreams and assist them through their internal struggles. Mariel handles all this with a detached and cool demeanor, and her monotone voice and often flat expression unnerve some. Deep down though, as her loving family knows well, Mariel is a kind and gentle soul who just seeks to satisfy her curiosity. She is a Winchester through and through, and fragile as she may seem, her family fiercely protects and supports her.
