Nightlife is a stubborn, hardworking, freedom loving and friendly spiral who has always been an outcast in Phthalo’s clan. When he was very young, his older brother Ribbonglimmer kidnaped him and his brother Blackice, and brought them to Phthalo’s clan in hopes of winning his leader’s approval. It didn’t work out, and Ribbonglimmer was banished, leaving his two younger brothers behind. Nightlife and Blackice used to be very close, nearly inseparable, but after Ribbonglimmer was banished, leaving his mate Starynight and their two dragonets behind, Phthalo decided that Starynight needed a new mate, so he assigned Blackice to fill that role. Nightlife and his brother began to grow apart, as Blackice was occupied with caring for his new mate and nephews, and Nightlife, who had never been interested in a female dragon, refused to have a mate be forced on him. Without a mate or dragonets, Nightlife had no means of rising in rank, No matter how much work he did expanding the lair, hunting, patrolling the border, or caring for the clans many Dragonets, no one seemed to respect him. The breaking point came when Blackice had two Dragonets with Starynight, and didn’t invite Nightlife to see them hatch. Nightlife confronted Blackice, but his brother told him that he couldn’t afford to fall in rank by socializing with bachelors, and he needed to prioritize his Dragonets by being in good social standing. Nightlife was heartbroken. He realized that his relationship with his brother was gone, and he no longer had any reason to stay. He wished his brother good luck with his family, wished his nieces and nephews goodbye, and headed off on his own.
