No one is more passionate about their work in the Research Division than Virum, the Division's head. Smart as a whip and with a never-ending drive to solve what cannot be solved, Virum is always hard at work. She finds Emperors extremely fascinating phenomena, and has made it her personal goal to figure out how they tick. She's always extremely happy to get her hands on some fresh samples, regardless of how rank they smell. Many dragons, including those who share her labs, find her to be a bit ... eccentric in her love for Emperors. She and Vultur are notably on tense terms due to their difference in opinions - but still work together very professionally in order to benefit the Guild..

Virum has held an obsessive fascination with Emperors ever since she saw one lugging its decaying body across the Wastelands as a child. She heard that a newly established Guild, Emperor's Bane, was looking for researchers, and jumped at the opportunity. Having experience with chemistry, brewing, and alchemy, she quickly cemented herself as a powerful asset to the Guild. Virum is one of the only members of the Research Division that enjoys field work, and sometimes accompanies Field or Disposal Division teams on their assignments in order to collect data. She's often followed by her young assistant, Xylari, who serves as her impulse control-slash-luggage carrier. One has to wonder if her constant exposure to and experiments in the pools of Quarantine Zone #128 have had a lasting effect on her mind ... especially in light of she and Sprocket, the Lightning Representative, forming a partnership of sorts. Virum is the only dragon which Sprocket even mildly holds respect for, and Virum is amazed at its genius and innovation, considering her perfect for a project she had in mind ... and with Sprocket's help, it may very well become a reality.

Vultur, as Virum's direct superior, overlooks all of the Snapper's research and experiments. Though they may not agree on many things, they hold mutual respect for eachother.

Virum's Deepmine Aardvark, Endothia, was shipped to Emperor's Bane after a long and thorough search by the Snapper to find a familiar capable of withstanding more ... questionable treatments. Due to the aardvark's ability to form a symbiotic relationship with different kinds of fungus, Virum often uses them as her own mobile culture, planting spores from things she's in the process of studying upon the familiar's back and tracking the outcomes. Since Endothia follows the Snapper around on expeditions and field research, Virum is able to have her own fungal garden if she needs to collect, compare, or experiment on the go. Some dragons question the ethicality of Virum using her familiar as a petri dish, but the aardvark doesn't appear to mind much. 		Deepmine Aardvark
