Biography
Y O R I S
Bigender| He/They
Potion-making. Alchemy. Dangerous sciences. Say no more to get Yoris interested. This dragon was born into a clan of Bogsneaks, specifically an alchemy clan. His egg rolled into a Bogsneak nest one day. Was it placed there? Delivered by the gods? Stolen by the Beastclans? No one knew. But no one really cared either. Instead, he was raised by Mother Alcael: the leader alchemist in their alchemy clan. When a little Skydancer popped out of an egg instead of a Bogsneak, Alcael was surprised but excited nonetheless. A new apprentice! Nothing would lift her spirits more than that. Yoris—named after the great alchemist Payorisan—was enamored with the idea of becoming an alchemist. Unlike his peers, Yoris followed along with the lessons, rapt. He even practiced off on his home, albeit against Alcael's wishes. His disobedience often cost Yoris his supper, but he didn't mind. He would go back into his room and focus on his studying for hours. He would skip meals, skip playing with his peers, skip everything. If it wasn't alchemy, Yoris didn't care. This bothered many of the elder alchemists within the clan. Yoris's studies had brought him into the practice of dark magick. Although Alcael was proud of her son, the elders pleaded with her to force him to cease his studies. Furious at the elders but caving to their demands, Alcael went to Yoris and told him he could no longer study alchemy. Much less the dark arts. Although Yoris trusted Alcael, he viewed this as a breach of his trust and loyalty. He called out both Alcael and the elders, angered by their decisions. |
"Do you not want to discover the secrets of this world?!" Yoris demanded of them. He was angry, and took it out on the council. "Do you not want to discover the secrets unknown to all dragonkind? Or are you cowards?" Fearful of this new version of Yoris, the alchemists declared his banishment. They called him evil, and a monster. They said his practice was unnatural and crude, that it went against the laws of nature. Yoris only laughed at them, and from his satchel he pulled a potion. The elders were horrified. The potion was created from dark magick, from the evil they claimed it was. They believed it to be poison, so they called their guards forward to kill Yoris. Alcael could not watch as her previous Yoris was about to be killed, and so she averted her eyes. She was right to. As Yoris downed the potion, his body began to change. Feathers became a leather hide. Wings curled and twisted to take on a bat-like shape. Eyes turned beady. His potion was not poison nor one of strength, but one of change. No longer a Skydancer, he was now a Nocturne. But the potion he drank had the unintended effect of blinding the elders who had stared at him. Was it by a flash of light? No one could say, as the elders refuse to speak of it to this day. After his transformation, Yoris continued to denounce the elders. He continued to call them cowards, afraid of taking the steps necessary to discover the secrets of the world. He would have continued his tirade, but the guards were closing in on him. So instead, Yoris fled. Leaving his homeland behind. He eventually arrived in a Plague clan, where they cared little about his previous tirade. He joined them, and secluded himself in a cave far away where he could study his dark arts in peace. |
