Miasma had kept this single egg well hidden in the depths of an old tomb. It was the middle of summer when sunlight burned the land and life grew dry and brittle. Here, buried in the darkness beneath the Earth, the hatchling first opened its eyes. It was alone save for something that shimmered, even in the darkness. The hatchling approached to find a golden ring that she took with her as she left the crude nest of stone. It sparked an obsession in the young beast - that same craving for treasure that plagued her father. . . and kept her seeking more. Despite being born amid the dry stone of the desert where sunlight scorched the land, she was cloaked in dark scales. Scoria, the beast became called, for she lurked beneath the surface of the Earth where her shifting movements caused great cracks in the ground from which molten stone bubbled forth. Those lands that she infected sunk down into an abyss of dark tar and the skies above became overtaken by a thick ash that blocked out the sun. The lands were sunless once Scoria left her mark upon them. For the most part, she sought old, abandoned places filled with treasures. Once they sunk beneath the Earth, she constructed her own kingdom from their essence. . . one filled with a thousand lost treasures that the beast claimed as her own.
