His clan had fallen, and he knew who to blame: that young Powderkeg upstart. Her untimely arrival upset the already fragile balance the Blackblade thieves maintained at the time; weakened after a recent rebellion, they were easy prey. She attacked their legitimate fronts with relentless obsession, and when Jahangir tried to salvage the crumbling businesses, she broke into the Blackblade lair, freeing the rebels—among them Jahangir’s son and former heir, Tarik.

It was the crack that finally shattered the foundation. His clan members abandoned him in droves, leaving him with only a handful of loyal underlings and cowardly bootlickers. Thieves and brutes, the lot of them. They weren’t much to boast of in the wake of his clan’s former glory, not much more than a gang, but he had clawed his way to the top with less before. He would do so again, and he would show the Powderkeg leader what a grave misstep she'd made.
