A Brief Lore Introduction
There have long been rumors of a special type of coatl that can only be found in the deepest caverns far below the Ancient Bellows of the Great Furnace. Some call them demigods and tell stories of their awe inspiring powers. Others consider them to be the first of the coatl breed; they are regular dragons, but made at the hands of the Flamecaller herself. Still others insist they're a myth. Nothing more than a tale told by self-important dragons. The exact truth is anyone's guess. Yet one thing is for sure: great change has come to the Ashfall Waste. The magma beneath the earth has altered form and course, new islands have emerged, and long dead breeds have returned to the world. In the end, few were surprised when strange coatl began to surface, claiming to have been driven from the magma veins they'd called home since time immemorial.
The Oxidized are said to be descended from coatl that once lived entirely below ground, and were capable of surviving indefinitely in molten magma. On contact with the surface air, the hides and feathers of these subterranean dragons began to darken and take on additional blue hues. While they and their descendents have lost the ability to swim through lava endlessly, they maintain high heat tolerance and can withstand shorter dips into the molten pools of the Ashfall Wastes. They also experience a unique magical state, wherein their elemental fire magic freely exchanges with the environment. While this was in theory helpful to their ancestors who lived in magma veins and completely surrounded by the Flamecaller’s magic, modern Oxidized may need to go to great lengths to prevent falling ill from magical depletion.
Despite some difficulties adjusting to surface life, the Oxidized have built tight knit societies and are slowly spreading to the far corners of Sornieth. They have carved a place for themselves in the world as metallurgists, forgers, and smiths of great renown. Will they call your clan home?
