Biography

VkwEe3u.png

Though Lightning-born, Attune likes to pass off as a Water dragon to keep her fortune telling business afloat.

What even Attune doesn’t know is that she does have some latent divination powers. However, that ability is rather underdeveloped due to her reliance on cold reading and sweet-talking tactics.

Worldbuilding Notes: Divination powers in elemental flights wrote:
While the Water flight is the most known for the power of prophecy, the inherent magic of all flights allows for divination to various extents. The magic of the deities form part of reality in Sornieth. Divinators simply hold a special awareness to their deity’s domain of reality.

Water flight
The currents of the future
Water is the most naturally gifted element in divination. The element’s inherent malleable and flowing qualities allows for a sensitivity towards the outcomes of the future, for knowing the flow of a river is to know the flow of the future.

Thanks to the natural disposition towards divination, Water has both the highest clairvoyant population but also the most disparity in skill levels, for the use of clairvoyance can be as subconscious and minor as having a hunch or as strong as vivid visions of future events.

A belief among the beaches of water lairs is that if you put a shell to your ear you can sometimes hear the remaining echos of Tidelord’s prophecies.

Oracles are highly regarded in the Water Flight and often enjoy a high social standing in their clan. They may take on leadership roles and are considered favored by their deity.

Light flight
Like the refraction of light, there is a rainbow of possibilities / the future shall be known to us
While it takes some discipline to tap into the powers of divination, once the initial skill barrier is breached, the divination powers of the light flight are to be rivaled with. While the population of active divinators is more modest, those who are tend to be rather skilled.

For whatever reason, Light divinators find their powers come more easily when in the vicinity of the ancient structures of the Sunbeam Ruins.

Fire flight
Visions of flames
There is great untapped potential when it comes to fire divination. Fire primals may exhibit such skills, and fire dragons who have survived near death experiences can come back changed in more ways than one.
Fire divinators are specially versed in predicting disasters, and are likely to have sudden bursts of visions warning of them. Factories in the Ashfall Waste sometimes employs such divinators to foresee accidents.

Some clans have the tradition of reading the future from the smoke of a burning furnace.
Fire's Charm Fire dragons can be “marked” with the blessing of revelation. It’s more usual for it to awaken it at some random
point in their lives, rather than being born with the gift from the start.
Flameweed A recently awakened dragon’s visions tend to be extremely vivid and difficult to control.
They often come in bursts.

Shadow flight
The future is shrouded in mystery, isn’t it?
Shadow flight’s philosophy can be at odds with classical divination, being more adjacent to other types of magic. Even the most capable of shadow divinators shroud themselves in mystery and view and respect the fabrics of unhappened future as an unknowable thing, one that is so vast that thinking one could shed a light on it is as foolish as thinking one lantern could illuminate an entire forest.
It is possible to see a smidge of the fates of the future, but can even water divinators claim to know the entire context and substance of their visions?

Instead, shadow divination focuses on knowing what they can’t know, and a greater emphasis is put on fate and luck. Skilled shadow divinators are rarely sensitive to clairvoyance in the way, say, a water divinator may be, but rather have a vast knowledge on how to interpret what they can see in the shadows. They focus on sensing the mood of the fates rather than divinating specific but small fragments of the future.

Many rituals for shadow’s brand of divination have been documented, such as interpreting the marks of scattered tea leaves to intuit if there waits fortune or grief in the season ahead, and there are many skilled tarot readers if you know where to look for. Divination is made from the symbolism of the cards drawn, interpreting the chance of a card being drawn as the capricious whims of fate. Rituals and trinkets to influence or appease fate are also common, such as luck charms and protections against evil eye.
