Tabék Akér Gambler's Market xxx
Weak light filtered in through grimy windows and illuminated the dust that floated in the air. If the shop-keep employed any sort of organizational method, it was not readily apparent. Heavy, dark wooden shelves stretched high, piled full to bursting with all manner of items. Some were easily identified, such as the healing herbs and remedies kept by all clans. Others were nearly abstract in their cases and wrappings, as though they struggled to keep their forms solidified. A small hatchling wandered through the aisles. Strange runes glowed upon her face and reflected off glass and metal as she passed row after row of trinkets. Somewhere further in, a man cleared his throat in obvious impatience.
"Is it wise for a gambler to dawdle?" his voice was velvet and machine oil -- smooth and warm, with an acrid tinge around its edges. His wings stretched out along the countertop and shrouded all upon it in a mass of dark feathers. Stark white markings covered his face and trailed down his body in a mock skeleton. Be they painted or naturally-occurring, they bestowed upon the creature a sense of wildness. "Come in, sit down. Tell me your heart's desire," he crooned. His teeth flashed in a dashing, dangerous smile. "And what you're willing to bet."

Despite his parents' efforts to assuage his thirst for valor and blood alike, they could not override his nature. Never one to judge, Tabèk welcomed the young man into the Market. After all, what's one more figure skulking about in the darkness? Especially one with such a brilliant talent for violence. | xxxx |
