Biography

ALIRENNE

APPRENTICE HEALER

SPOTIFYYOUTUBE

Due to her biological father's condition, Alirenne was born with major cognitive and learning delays, such as being unable to speak or fly. She was adopted by Anestrine. However, her biological mother still had strong healing abilities that she passed down to her daughter. Whether intentional or not, Alirenne has a quirk for leaving the plants she walks on healthier than before.

~~~~~
Imagine waking up and being unable to move your body more than a few centimeters at a time. Imagine trying to speak but your tongue won't move and your vocal cords seem paralysed. The only thing you can do is release the seemingly limitless Breath coursing through your veins as the one person that can bother dealing with you watches in confusion. Consciousness intact, but trapped in a disobedient body.
On better days, when Anestrine has the strength to heal me through the night, I could walk and try to play with the other hatchlings. If Hiraeth wills it, I can try to pick up a quill and write. But those days are few and far in between. Anestrine says that as long as I can try, I can do. Eventually.
I will admit, it has gotten a bit easier to get out of bed in the morning, even with only a little bit of healing. I'm working on self-healing now, and it has helped me move around. But what I'm most proud of are the dozens of healthy, thriving plants surrounding the other cottages that I unintentionally healed. Usually this is something that only Nature dragons can do, but I'm a Light dragon!
Anestrine says that when I can heal myself through the night, she'll teach me how to heal others. This is more difficult than simply healing yourself because while you know the exact amount of healing needed in your body, you don't quite know the amount of healing needed in others' bodies. It takes a lot of practice and intuition, otherwise you may overdo it and hurt them. Sounds unbelievable, that you can hurt someone by healing them, but it's possible and others have even died from it. Anestrine compares this phenomena to a diamond: hard to scratch, but extremely brittle. Muscles can tear and bones can break by simply sitting up. Crazy!
My movements have improved to the point where I can stretch out my limbs and wings to their fullest without pain or discomfort. I've managed to communicate to Anestrine and the other healers about getting custom mobility aids made by Astanax, and they said that I'm old enough to decide for myself, and if I'm still unsure I can pray to Hiraeth for an answer. I'm glad they're finally starting to respect my choices now.
I successfully healed my first dragon today! It was a little hatchling that had scuffed her hands while learning to land after flying. She was as good as new when I finished. Anestrine says that if I keep this up, soon I might be good enough to be a Coliseum healer like Magdalena. I'll keep practicing and honing my magic.
Over the past couple months, my dreams have been getting more and more surreal. One moment I'm travelling through Sornieth at record speed, others I'm at home watching hatchlings play. Sometimes I'm even at the terrace of the gods' residences. Hiraeth is a common figure, but he's usually watching me from afar. I wonder if I'm meant to be a seeress! Whenever I wake up I can feel the room pulsing with Breath, and my runes glow brighter than I've ever seen them.
I met with Astanax to get my measurements. Anestrine wrote down on a piece of parchment what I need in case I have another bout of silence, so I gave that to him. He says I'll get them in about a month or two, and I can't wait! Hopefully I can even learn to fly.
Last night I had another dream about Hiraeth. We were alone in the Tourmaline Archives, looking over records on a topic I can't remember the name of. Even though I only started worshipping him because he's the most popular patron of healers, I know he's taken a special interest in me. Anestrine says it's very common for deities to fixate on disabled dragons for whatever reason, so that makes me feel a little better about my awful condition.
I still cannot believe my eyes. When I woke up this morning, not only were my runes glowing brighter than white, there was a dragon egg on my desk! I hobbled over to get a better look at it, but then I tripped and knocked over a bunch of books. Anestrine came running when she heard the racket and almost fainted when she saw the egg. Anyway, I got up and we looked it over together. An Arcane egg! I instantly knew it was from him, from Hiraeth!
~~~~~

"I... Ali, you can barely speak! How do you expect to raise this child?"

Alirenne stared up at the Spiral, clutching the egg close to her chest.

"Ali..." Anestrine sighed as she rubbed her temples.

The Obelisk looked down at the egg in her arms. It glowed softly, indicating a healthy life within.

"It's from Hiraeth." she mumbled.

"Huh? What? Why would Hiraeth give you a ch-" Anestrine paused and inhaled sharply, "The dreams! What kind of dreams were you having with him, girl?"

"I don't really remember. Just him." Alirenne said.

Anestrine sighed loudly, "Well, good thing I have experience in child rearing. I like to think I didn't mess you up too badly, no?

Ali shook her head.

"Well, then, I suppose we better make a nest for the thing. And be careful with it, given your disabilities I wouldn't be surprised if this were the only way you'd have the chance to bring a child into this world."
