Roan

I had seen my friends die next to me in war, I had escaped the beasts but the nightmares still haunted me. My camp had been destroyed when I was making a water run. Everyone I had known, fought with, risked my life with... gone. And so I ran, I had no idea where, North, South, West, East, I just ran. And then I was in a desert. I could feel the blood dripping from the side of my face, from the forests I had gone through, putting each blistered foot in front of the other. I knew my life was nearing the end and I was ready. I laid down, the sand, the sun beating down. Then I saw it, a burst of fire, a dragons fire. I fumbled up and saw, in the shadows, a hatchling. Her parents were nowhere to be seen so I took her under my wing. We found a cave and it was there I raised her, Akemi. She would be the caregiver of dragons with no hope, dragons nearly dead, no one to go to, she would save them... just as she had saved me.
