Rejected from his original Clan due to his dull coloration, Augustus bounced from area to area for a long while before eventually stumbling across the Rotmarrow Clan, who welcomed him with open arms. He was surprised to find that dull colors were considered a boon in the Scarred Wasteland, but took to the Rotmarrow Clan with enthusiasm despite his difficulties adjusting.

Augustus quickly gained a reputation for being warm and welcoming to other newcomers, and enjoys helping them find their place in the Clan so they won't feel as lost as he did for as long as he did. He's also known to be something of a Casanova, having taken multiple mates in his time in the Rotmarrow Clan but never staying with them for more than a breeding season.

It took him a long time, but Augustus eventually found that he very much enjoyed reading, and wanted other dragons to discover how fun it was. His hoard is comprised almost solely of books and writing supplies, and he tends to write instead of speak due to his hearing issues. He knows sign language and encourages his Clanmates to learn it as well.

Augustus adopted Saazas as soon as Eucla brought her to the Clan, assuming she came from a similar background as himself. Saazas was too young to know what happened prior to Eucla finding her, so her origins remain unknown, but Augustus is fiercely protective of her and is quick to pick fights with any Coatls that insinuate she's somehow lesser for her dull colors.
