Spyrid has long had an interest in evolution, and while such is typical of Aberrations as a whole, the extent and academic inclination of Spyrid's curiosity is unusual. He follows field journals with fascination, and it isn't long before he sets out to make his own. No sooner than his first study is published, Stasis reaches out to him. The Portal, he says, is a rapidly evolving front, and sorely in need of scientific examination. Spyrid wastes no time in taking the opportunity.

To his surprise, there are other scientists of some fame also there. Kochka, Malegria, and even the coatl Magisa live nearby, all focused on different aspects of the same project. Honored to be counted among their number, Spyrid pushes himself to new levels of productivity. And as Malegria comes to rely not only on his ability to collect samples but his opinions as well, it seems to be paying off.
