Voice of Bhaal

I’ve known Rook for many years now - every craftsdragon does. It’s an unspoken rule around here - Rook is the first dragon you get to know. He is shockingly long for a Gaoler - longer than most males of his species, but lithe and sinous. Despite his size, he speaks softly and politely, and does not seem as standoffish as the other Goalers I know. You can’t miss him from the others here, he’s got gilded horns and the spots of a snake on his coat. He’s the favorite around here - all day long as he makes his rounds as the go-between of Bhaal’s Council and the merchants, dragons try to bribe him or gift him with trinkets and food for his help.
Though he serves Bhaal devotedly, I sometimes wonder whether he has something troubling him. I occasionally catch him lost in thought, or peering around occasionally. When he speaks of Bhaal, there is love and respect there, but there’s always…some kind of question in his voice, as though there is something he’s pondering. When I presented to the council, his eyes never left her, and he seemed to be waiting for something. Now that I’m talking about it, I realize that in general he holds back, as though he is stopping himself from getting close to any of us…oh, listen to me. My sire always said I could talk the walls to sleep, chatty even for a Spiral, he said. I’ve got to go - I made Rook some of my special spiced jerky for his help with the council, and I see his golden horns now. Ta!
