Biography

Two of the first members of the clan, twins Gavin and Ophelia were found by Varden some years ago in the Tangled Wood. Unbeknownst to the twins, Varden saw in the hatchlings his own lost innocence and an opportunity to start over, to begin a new family. He took them with him on his travels until the three eventually settled in the Starfall Isles, Varden caring for the little ones as if they were his own. Though initially wary of Varden, having been abandoned before, the twins grew to love him as a father, and soon followed him everywhere he went, never far behind him; in fact, it earned the two the fond nickname “my little shadows” from Varden. As they grew older, more dragons began to join Varden, until a clan was established. But Gavin and Ophelia remained Varden’s favorites, the older Imperial doting on them well into their adult years. And though they are now grown, the twins have retained their childlike mischievousness, constantly getting into all sorts of trouble- though nothing Varden can’t get them out of. And if their pranks and adventures ever get too far, Varden is sure to give them a disappointed speech, though he’s never able to stay angry for long. Varden has tried to raise them to be upstanding dragons, but Gavin and Ophelia have never been able to deny their chaotic natures and devilish tendencies- though if they ever see another dragon in need, their heroic and protective sides are sure to come out. Gavin is the more soft spoken of the two, always with his head in the clouds; his sister, however, seems to always have her mind on the next fight or the next prank. And though Gavin may act like the more mature of the two, in reality, he’s still as childish as he was as a hatchling, something Varden is eternally grateful for. Though he may sometimes appear disappointed in the twin’s actions, Varden is secretly relieved that they’ve managed to retain their childlike joy and sense of adventure all these years. It’s something he lost long ago with one mistake, and it’s something he’s always regretted losing; which is why Varden is determined to protect the twins’ innocence and keep them naïve to the world’s horrors.
