Childhood
Aquilae grew up in a rather large family in the gray monochromic slums under the kingdom of Dionia. Because of the size of his familial unit, Aquilae was left on his own to fend for himself and to his parents became more of a worker than simply a child. They tended to him to the barest minimum until he was independent enough to truly work. Once such a day came, Aquilae was quickly tossed from the nest and told to find a job. However Aquilae was quite small, young and inexperienced in a lot, leaving his options for work very slim. Turned down for every excuse under the stars, his hopes for work lied deep within the darkest part of the city only visible by the meek glow of orangey fire. Upon entering such a place, he found a great red dragon who worked diligently in his forge hidden away in the shadows. His shop was covered in tools, trinkets and other metallic oddities that immediately caught the fascination of Aquilae. He became fixated on all these wonderful things, how such sturdy material such as metal could be bent into something so complex and detailed. He had to know how and thus he asked the old blacksmith if he could be taught. Though the aged worker simply scoffed since he had “barely gotten his eggshells off”. But upon seeing the hopes and dreams of the little Aquilae start to die, the old dragon offered him a bargain: If Aquilae could pick up a tool all by himself, he’d teach him. Seemed simple enough but steel was heavy and Aquilae was small. But Aquilae was also determined. Everyday, he came to hold up that bargain, to try and lift that metal on his own. Days became weeks, weeks became months and though many discourage him for his idiotic obsession, Aquilae wouldn’t let down. He found his passion, the thing that put the fire in his soul and he wasn’t about to let it go. And eventually. His determination paid through. Aquilae lifted the hammer in which to forge his metals and hasn’t put it down since. Learning everything he knows from the blacksmith mentor Raijin, who was quite in awe that he managed to do such a thing.
Adolescence
Most of Aquilae’s early life after that was spent with Raijin, spent simply working for him and getting better at the craft. Opening the kingdom to the crafts of blacksmithing and pulling Raijin little shop out of the shadows for everyone to see. This of course eventually caught the eye of the military and Aquilae was able to join a cause to protect his kingdom. Forging tools and weapons for the soldiers to use. But Aquilae was ill prepared for the truth of wars… How all the weapons he’d created would be stained with blood and how many who carried them would never return. He saw many faces and saw many lost… In the grips of war when his kingdom was at its most desperate, the walls finally cracked under the pressure and all came tumbling down. Innocent lives were taken, many soldiers were lost, the kingdom of Usleris was no more. But it didn’t have to end for Aquilae, Raijin knew this, so he gave him a sword and a second chance. Sneaking Aquilae away through a window, Raijin ensured the young boy was able to escape the falling walls. Even if it meant losing everything. Raijin stopped the soldiers finding the hole that Aquilae escaped through and was captured by the rivalling kingdom of Crobet.
Young Adulthood
Now with nothing but the clothing on his back and the memories of his mentor to guide him, Aquilae moved far from the lands, avoiding the hell behind him to find himself a new place, somewhere where war couldn’t find him… This lead him to a distance land, A land far off it touched the sea. A land everyone knew as simply “The Coastline.” A sandy watery tropical paradise that pushed away from the bloodsoaked center of the kingdoms. He heard of such a place long ago when he was just a child but never dreamed that such a place existed. And even if it did, would it have a place for him? Well it did… The towns needed a blacksmith and Aquilae needed a home. So they come to a simple arrangement. Aquilae fit in nicely among the others of the town but one that he found himself the closest too was a large blue dragon named Yuu. This large dragon was however his age and full of patience and playfulness. He felt like he had known this dragon his whole life. Though Yuu had plans and as soon as he came, he simply left, joining the war of the mainlands.
Adulthood
This left Aquilae a bit lonely but content with where he was for the time, he became older and more established and like his old mentor now sat in his little shop attracting the attention of passerbys. One of these bystanders was a young lady named Abyss who, like Aquilae before, grew immediately fond of the idea of his craft and asked to join him. And thus Aquilae did, he taught her like he was taught before, showing her how to make tools and crafts for the people of the town which everyone ate up. But Abyss was aiming for the attention of bigger people, kings and queens of great countries. Abyss wanted to impress the gods with her work and Aquilae indulged her fantasies as he thought a good mentor should. However such a thing eventually came back to bite him… Literally. Abyss, having shown her skills to the royal circle, was laughed off the stage for she lacked one particular skill. She couldn’t make weapons. Aquilae had not taught her for he had already seen what weapons he makes do and didn’t want anyone else to befall such a fate of seeing their craft be used to take lives. But to the kings and queens who wished for a blacksmith to help with their mindless massacres, that was pathetic pacifist’s talk. Abyss angered by this embarrassment took it out on Aquilae, getting into a fight with him that he tried to explain away but Abyss wouldn’t listen. She attacked her own mentor in her fury, leaving him injured and weakened. After having done such a thing, Abyss ran away never to return. Aquilae was left in horrid condition from the fight and when he felt at his lowest, who should return but Yuu… After all these years Yuu returned, having his own horrid story from his time apart. Both were recovering, both were broken but found strength in each other, leading into a proper relationship. Now baring the chaos of life together, Aquilae found some level of security, the walls of his new life weren’t going to crumble, everything was safe. He returned to his craft when he finally could pick up the hammer again, overcoming his loss and injuries once
Recent
Years later after having all these events far in his past, Aquilae would again get the chance to get an apprentice, another little dragoness named Hinnah wandered into his shop asking for work. Though such an idea brought back bad memories, Aquilae was more prepare and was more stern and strict than previously. When she didn’t mind his cold shoulder, Aquilae decided it was worth another try, take on an apprentice, do better than he had before and see where life takes him… Well life had a bit of a different plan… One night the coastline was attacked by a travelling band of warriors known as the Storm Guild. Though this guild had no ties to a kingdom and instead a tie to a purpose. They wanted to end all the wars the kingdoms were starting, bring peace onto the land that the people deserved but their way of gaining followers wasn’t so peaceful. By force they gathered the small dragon blacksmith up, put him in chains and drug him away to work for war again... |
