Slithering Vine

Hallowed of Cultivation

- The greenery on this spiral's body is more of his total shape than the flesh. Trickles of pure water trail from the spaces between packed mosses and scales caked in dirt, watering the small seeds that pop up every so often to make little clovers and flowers across his body. Algae builds up in the streams. It's beautiful.
- so you wouldn't expect him to be a malicious Hallowed, right? WRONG.
- This dude controls a chunk of vibrant megaforest, carefully tending to the plants and allowing them to get HUGE. This is extremely appealing, since Earth's territory is barren in a lot of places and his apparent farming techniques are unimaginably effective.
- He talks to mortals directly. Doesn't matter what they want- to research, to learn, everything from excited biologists to curious nomads to desperate farmers gets treated the same. They wander into the grove, he finds them and seems like a normal (albeit powerful) mage... Until they see his eyes. They're not nature. Heck, they're not even eyes- they're eyes. the wooden kind.
- If they get cold feet the plants block their escape. He tells them to make their plea. If they refuse... Well, nobody's even been able to tell what happened when they refused. Everyone who makes it back out accepted.
- he'll grant that plea in exchange for planting a seed in them, telling them in a year's time it will sprout and they will take care of it. Not that they have to- that they will. For one year, dragons are basically gifted a chunk of his powers that suit their needs. It's saved villages, made researchers soar in popularity and prowess, it's amazing!
- but towards the year's end, they start acting strange. They become obsessed with water and sunlight, to an unimaginable degree; they can't stay indoors without extreme discomfort and are constantly thirsty. In the last couple weeks, the seed's site becomes painful and it begins to grow out of their flesh. The dragons are doomed at this point, because the seed's roots are ingrained throughout it- doctors who tried to check out the bump of the seed sprouting found that the little roots infused every muscle, every organ, and at this stage reached the brain. Hence the behavior changes.
- and the extreme possessive attachment the host has to the seed, with the uncanny addition that they're still very conscious of the pain and terror it causes. They hate it but can't bring themselves to harm it, and refusing to take care of it causes them so much stress and anxiety that they have no choice but to relent and give it what it wants.
- When the seed sprouts t's always unique, a plant that doesn't match herbological records. This is also the stage where the roots are able to penetrate the soul (which is super neat on a pearlcatcher) and leech the mana from it aggressively. This is where Trillium gets his due.
- the dragon has no hope now. Can't stop the plant, can't let it be hurt, it can feel every bug bite or nick on the stem like a broken bone. The plant is a fascinating spell, really, because it becomes sort of that dragon's body so severely that it takes on the soul of that dragon. It is part of the dragon's body like an arm or leg.
- it makes the dragon grow bigger! Bigger and more magically inclined, it prefers high magic atmospheres. What it's doing is growing the soul INSIDE THE DRAGON and making the dragon move to highly productive areas for mana generation. It's cultivating mana.
- eventually the dragon's body will give out, shortened lifespan and all, and the final will of the plant makes the dragon travel back to Trillium. When the mortal dies, the Hallowed buries the body in the grove with the plant poking out of the soil, and coaxes it to continue growing. the entire grove is dragons... and the plants, being alive and attached to the soul, continue to produce small amounts of mana that Trillium can consume. The plants have the souls now.
- one of the most efficient Hallowed ever because of this. What better than cultivation to make massive amounts of food? Every other Hallowed is a hunter. He's a farmer. It just... Works.
