____"You have JUST the prettiest colours!" He couldn't begin to count the number of times he's said those simple words, alive with glee as he struggles to contain his excitement, but it's never felt like a lie. Even in cool shade of the hewn city, shadows stretching from crumbling structures, monuments to purpose long forgotten, he's always been surrounded by colour. His siblings, long gone to different corners of the Sornieth, made a veritable rainbow, much adored by his parents for each striking difference in shade each fledgling grew into. He's told such love for colour must have condescended in him, a vivid blue, brushed by a gleam of lavender in the sun, emerging from the veritable pond of colour that his parents spoke of when talking of their numerous children, metaphor made manifest with the glimmering aquatic orb Calder carries with him - a shining surface that stills and softens to allow him to use it as a mirror. Scribbles on old stone, pulling from every brilliant shade of his clutchmates and tales of siblings, weren't necesarily the most appropriate canvas for a young nocturne, but they were foundational in built his love of art. Travelling beyond the hewn city, he found the world was even brighter, more brilliant than he could have imagined, and solidifed what he wanted to do: put its colours to paper to cherish them. In his adult years, odd luck seems to trail Calder as he does his work. He'll always find the exact paintbrush he needs and the exact paint he needs will mysteriously have dried up, despite judicious and habitual capping of their tubes. He'll win a coin flip, only to turn and stub his toe. His family were never a particularly supersitutious one, nor did they hold particularly strong allegiances to their elemental flights, but the influence of the mysterious Ahrengi seems to linger over Calder even to this day. Who knows, perhaps this great god's influence even explains his unlikely colouration. Whatever the case, he isn't particularly interested in the cause as he vastly prefers to spend his time focused on his paintings, be they commissioned work or quick portraits of a particularly striking dragon he sees. (He does wish his bad luck streaks were shorter, though.)

Calder is a dragon born from Stock The Pond. Although his parents weren't perfect colour wheel opposites, he's one of the only XXX dragons from the challenge so far! Splash was a perfect colour too!
