Backstory
Zivy isn’t like other Tritons, perhaps if only for the fact that he isn’t a Triton at all. Rather than the usual 200 year lifespan of Tritons, a Siren’s lifespan stretches beyond 500 years. He’s relatively young for a Siren, and hatched after the land had split from the sea. Others of his kind had known what life used to be like.
Raised on his lonesome under the pitch black boiling waters of the Seethe, he never knew family or companionship. It was eat or be eaten down there. Sirens like him, however, would gather every once in a while to tell tales of the past: awe inspiring stories about sailors and folks like himself, pushing his kind into a kinder light than what tales told by those on land. Sirens were the good guys; greedy sailors without the spine to resist their sweet singsong voices and charming appearances deserved to be dragged down to the depths and eaten. Zivys thought, well, that can’t be right. No one is deserving of a fate so cruel. Even should the ocean return to the placated state it used to be in, he couldn’t do that to people. This didn’t sit right with him, so he felt the urge to somehow leave the Seethe and immerse himself in their culture to see if landlocked folks really were as the Sirens said. He had to find out the truth about these tales. With his innate ability to shapeshift into humanoid forms on a whim, he took on the appearance of what he thought Tritons looked like in the past, based on the words and descriptions from other monsters in the Seethe.
Alone, he somehow made it to the land above. Perhaps with the help of magic from other monsters below. For 25 years, he held his same age and form as he traveled through life on the surface as though he were from there. He learned to read, write, and understand a few different languages throughout his journey, even venturing to enter and graduate Bard college, utilizing the vast knowledge held in the library to gain a better understanding of the world. He took to playing instruments (the beating of a drum turned out to be his favorite) and writing stories, since he couldn’t trust his voice to carry him far without accidentally charming people. It wasn’t in his nature to use his powers on people who didn’t absolutely deserve it.
He thought the most of others, following many adventuring groups around until they ultimately ditched him for being too clingy and persistent, and in some folks’ words, downright annoying. For 24 years, he went through life without a consistent group of friends— until he found Marwynn. The two of them were a match made in heaven, with Mar always wanting attention and Zivy constantly being around to give attention and people-please. They traveled together for a few months before the official Landfall crew formed.
