theme song

Uh-oh, looks like this grumpy boy wandered a little too far from his home lair (569097, cwimsqn), and now he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but he would be very grateful!

Silver was born to a magical mother, but didn't inherit her power like his sister Yasmine did. Since birth, the Bogsneak has been a grumpy child, often challenging his other sister Stormstrike to various duels and games. Needless to say, the duo became strong physical fighters out of their tussles; Silver more so than Stormstrike. But all three of them had their mother's wandering blood in them, even if they weren't aware of it.

Silver was the least pampered of the three children; Yasmine was doted on by their mother and Stormstrike by their mother's friend - although none of the trio remember it. Their father Wisp was the one to tell them these things; their mother was a traveler, and was out exploring the world. None of the children knew their mother that well, and so decided to venture out into the world to see if they could find her.

Originally, all three were supposed to go together, but Yasmine overstrained herself, causing her to become weak and fragile. Stormstrike held back, but Silver didn't want to; he wanted to see the outside world and find their mother now. So he left on his own, leaving his siblings, father, and the Kingdom behind. Only time would tell if they would ever reunite with each other or their mother.

Kingdom of Ascension; Jelllitan #487789

When Silver was approaching the Arcane territory, he noticed a huge swarm of dragons flying higher and higher into the sky. While he was curious, he had a gut feeling not to go, so instead he turned around and looked elsewhere.

Clan AXQU; (Axqu #109836)(Smirch applied!)(Lv. 6 > 10)

Arcane territory had been a bust. Silver didn't have the magical acumen of his sister Stormstrike, nor did he have the social acumen that Yasmine had. Silver understood the concepts the Arcane scholars taught him just fine, but the magic in his blood just wasn't strong enough to make a scrying spell happen. He wasn't social enough to convince anyone to do it for him-- not a bad dude, just introverted with low social bandwidth and a blunt affect, which everyone in his family dismissed as "being grumpy." They couldn't see how his tolerance of their constant ribbing meant he loved them.

He had private doubts about how much his sisters really cared to find their mother, with how little effort they were willing to put in, but Silver never said that out loud. Because he loved them.

While researching where to go next, Silver followed an interesting lead on an extremely proficient Archmage that'd grown up inside the Astrodome. Balestrieri's dissertation was on magical power sources, and since Silver was looking for concrete answers rather than the vague and cryptic nonsense put out by the Water flight, he decided to seek the mage out. After all, merging magic and technology probably meant an artificial scry pool of some persuasion, and Balestrieri was probably the only one publicly doing that kind of work.

Silver didn't have too much of a plan when he showed up on Clan AXQU's doorstep, penniless and half-frozen, but what he did not expect was an offer. Balestrieri needed an assistant for a few weeks, and in return for Silver's help, the ridgeback would attempt to help Silver with his quest.

He learned a lot during his tenure as an intern. Balestrieri was fantastic at explaining magic fundamentals without the 'woo-woo garbage' and over-spiritualizing that frustrated Silver so much about it. Thinking in probabilities rather than absolutes helped a lot. So did Balestrieri's no-nonsense but lighthearted method of teaching, and the kinesthetic hands-on skills. Silver learned more than he ever had about basic magic theory and vocabulary, which made his time in Clan AXQU's library a thousand times more productive than his time in Arcane.

But then he found his way past the security systems into a section of the library that he wasn't supposed to go, and dug up a spell book detailing how to unlock the magical potential of someone with nearly none. It seemed perfect, and all it required was a bit of pain. Silver did not expect the crimson streaks across his scales, bright and glistening like a splash of blood, that would not go away. They'd soaked into his skin and permeated his genes, permanently changing the way he and his children would look.

Balestrieri sighed when he saw the bogsneak next. "Blood magic? Really? You're lucky the only damage is cosmetic. Looks like you did have a magic clot or you'd have put some wounds on your soul for sure."

He was just grateful it wasn't worse.

The scry shed some insight onto his mother's life. It was wonderful having a few concrete answers of where she'd gone, who she'd met, and what she'd done after she'd left their father. And a concrete idea of what she'd looked like. But even for Clan AXQU's scry-master, the trail went cold a few years back. Cosmo warned him not to hold out too much hope of finding her. Silver replied that he had to try. And so, with a heavier heart but a clearer course of action, Silver headed off toward the place his mother had last been seen.

Residents of the Quarantine; AlumTheDragon #506666 (10->11)

While Silver still hadn't caught any wiff of his mother in the Scarred Wasteland, it was still a fine enough place to further his magic studies! ...Which would have been a lot easier if he hadn't seemingly stopped in a village with almost zero knowledge in magic-

"Yeah, I don't believe I have too much on magic. Nothing that you want, at least. Most of what we have has been provided by the Preservation Guild, so as of now the collection is basically just Earth-related texts." Still, the Bogsneak(?) let Silver have free roam of her collection, and even gave him a key to a hidden closet with rarer books. Like Variant had already said, there wasn't anything else on Blood magic that could help him further practice the art. For now, he would simply have to do his own trials to learn more.

Before he left the library, however, Variant gave him one more tip: to seek out a Necromancer named Kahina.

And so he did! Searching through the area, Silver eventually found her at the edge of the Quarantine Zone, staring into a glowing pool and talking quietly to a skeletal hound. Whatever she was doing in the moment Kahina was certainly focused on it as it took Silver loudly announcing his presence for her to actually notice he was there.

Once again, the amount she knew was somewhat lacking. "Blood magic? Yeah, that's not my expertise either." As it turned out, even if Kahina had spells he could learn, it would be unlikely she would be allowed to teach them unless Silver went through the Necromancer trials. Of course, Silver did not have the time nor the want to actually go through some fancy right of passage! "I think I do know something you can learn, though! It'll be useful in combat too, if the opportunity ever pops up."

And so the pair spent that afternoon training. Silver learned how to concentrate his magic into a powerful slash that would then cause enemies to hurt more over a longer period of time. Feeling more satisfied with his growing abilities, he said goodbye to Kahina and headed to his next destination. Surely, he would hear news of his mother's whereabouts soon?

Plaguemort; 553661

A vast swamp-land wasn't every dragon's next pick to find information on lost mothers but perhaps someone here may know something...

Silver had a few troubles moving toward the soft earth and deep waters but soon ended up finding an underground cave with walls that glowed with bright colorful fungus, for a moment it was empty before he soon found out this was the lair of a powerful creature.

After the air of shock and quietness drifted away, Silver began to speak of his journey and his goal to find his mother. The large Aberration gave a pause to think before drawing something on the ground... A message

Search for waters, they shall wash away and reveal the truth. But will you be ready for it?

With this message in mind, Silver soon head out with a small rush in his steps, Waters as in an ocean? A pond? Nonetheless, he'll find what this means.

Cave of Lost Souls; 345145 RoiKartal ((ground applied, 11-->18))
Even nowadays, the Lost Jungle was a mess, and it was obvious the clan rumored to live at the Cave of Lost Souls deep in its overgrown clutches was still a little paranoid. Silver did not know this as he fumbled under decaying fallen trees and over questionable fungi colonies, but he did wonder a few times why he was bothering to come to such a clan that seemed so out of the way. Maybe it was his inherent stubbornness, or maybe it was the vague feeling that all his effort had to be rewarded. After all, it was said that a literal goddess watched over the Lost Souls. Surely a mother goddess like that would be able to divine where his mother might have wandered off to?
At last, he reached a clearing and saw the mouth of what must be the Cave in the distance. There was a pond right in front of the Cave where a massive Guardian and a smaller but still rather impressive Snapper were relaxing. The Guardian noticed him first and dipped her head in welcome, introducing herself as Queen Calla. The name sounded familiar, as if her name had passed his way before, the reclusive Mother Goddess of ancient legend who slumbered now in the heart of deep cave.
"No one comes here unless they are desperate for something," she continued after Silver had introduced himself. "What do you seek, Silver?"
Silver wasn't surprised she already knew he needed something. The atmosphere was too calm for him to be surprised by anything. Had the dragons heated their pond with lavender bath bombs? He described his mother Devara, all he could remember from his own memories, augmented with his father's accounts. Calla and her companion, who'd called herself Aphordite, listened until Silver's story was told. They seemed so receptive Silver found himself telling them about his recent travels, including the moment of pride when he'd learned blood magic.
"Ah, so that's what it's called. I am no stranger to that, though it was not me who performed those rituals on myself. I deeply admire someone with that sort of magic."
A Goddess admired him?
Calla and Aphordite exchanged looks, as if asking each other a silent question. Then Calla turned back to Silver with a sad smile.
"I'm sorry, son, but Devara is not a name that I know. However, you are welcome to search our library. Alene's collection is extensive--"
"Cal, Alene is with Foxglove's clan now," Aphordite reminded her gently.
Calla's eyes clouded. "Of course."
They directed Silver instead to an elusive dragon called Lobelia. While she didn't speak, she pushed helpful magic books his way without being asked, as if she somehow already knew. As Silver was looking through her library, Lobelia brought him a scroll she thought he might find interesting. Before he realized just what he was looking at, the scroll's magic began to take effect.
While with the clan, Silver befriended a vain fire mage named Varis and a goofy earth mage named Chisato. Together, they went on many adventures. Frankly, their friendship didn't make sense. Usually their outings would consist of Varis complaining the whole time about Chisato's stupid jokes while Chisato complained that Varis wasn't acknowledging his comic genius while Silver said nothing. It was only the fact that they kept coming back to continue their adventure that showed they had any fondness for each other at all. But every journey must come to its end. With a couple new genes and few more levels under his belt, Silver bid his temporary home a fond farewell.
