The presence of a proper representative from the Riftkind has allowed Celeste to finally return to her research instead of playing diplomat. Skyline is not really an official ambassador, but she speaks for Riftkind interests. Sent on what was feared to be a suicide mission by an extremely unpopular Riftkind organization who wanted to pursue a peaceful resolution; luckily NC managed to get to her before anyone else did. She's one of only two Riftkind allowed to roam the base more or less freely, though she needed to push a lot before she was granted any voice whatsoever and access to more sensitive information. The high stakes involved mean she's still not very well trusted, and
-they don't really look like a dragon; basically a bunch of levitating crystal shards forming their body, I gotta draw them at some point
-was offered proper quarters but insisted upon a cell in the Holding Facility instead; spends most of his free time trying to keep the other Riftkind contained there company. He's deeply affected by the condition many of them are in (damaged by the transition through the portal, emotionally scarred, etc) and is appalled by the way they were treated before NC realized some of their "shade beasts" were sentient and capable of being reasoned with. Currently frustrated due to the fact that he's become embroiled in frequent debates about what should be done with the Riftkind in the facility; they deserve freedom, but a few were engineered as weapons, and NC is (not unjustifiably) concerned the Riftkind might use the organization's knowledge to destroy dragonkind entirely. (The Council is sympathetic and regret that they don't have a better solution, but currently feel the risk is simply too great.)
She's extremely frustrated and her mental health is deteriorating, both from being trapped in the base for the rest of her foreseeable future with creatures who view her with extreme suspicion, and because her main worry when she went through the portal was whether the entities on the other side were even something that could be reasoned with and not something purely evil or completely incomprehensible; she didn't even seriously consider that they might be perfectly reasonable and feel awful for what was happening to her people but would have very good reasons to not do anything about it
-they feel awful about it, but insists that dragonkind would eventually recover from the loss of magic, whereas their people are NOT going to recover from their star going supernova in the near future (this was the first time NC realized that taking into account the laws of physics of the Rift universe, the only way Sornieth could've existed for so long- and could continue to exist in the future- is if the Rift has been connected to at least one other now-dead star in the past, and would somehow be once again connected to a new star once the Riftkinds' star was depleted)
vibes
I've have tried to be so careful
I've not spoken from that day
That the earth's sweet winds seduced me
And swayed me from my way
I've walked only in the sun's bright rays
And banished all thought of my traveller's ways
I can't go home, can no longer fly
Mid the stars that are dimmed by an earthling sky
The stars at night, like angels
Try to call me from my sleep
And I long to draw the curtains back
And listen while they speak
Can you tell me if my world is well
And sing me of that which you cannot tell
And weep for the traveller who fell from space
To be trapped for all time on this lonely place
But the stars, they sing too strongly
Of the home I'll no more know
Though I chose to make my visit here
I want so to chose to go
So I can't see the light of the flames of space
Or I wander the night with my tears on my face
I sorry I roamed from my star of birth
To be lost, mute and cold, beneath the skies of earth
I wish on the stars I will never see
Praying no more will be lost like me
