Biography
They were... awake?
...
Were they?
Their eyes fluttered open, only to be greeted with an oppressive darkness, enveloping them in nothingness as a deep hum droned around the veilspun's frail body. The deep pressure was like a vacuum, and it felt like their body was buckling at the seams, desperately trying not to pop. Shadow magic being a deep violet wasn't the greatest light source, but anything was better than nothing. Shadows wisped around curiously, and their magic flickered out. They were... exhausted, laying their broken body onto the floor with a whimper, wracking their brain to know what happened. They couldn't even recall their name.
Had they had been meddling with something they didn't understand? Maybe a little. They hadn't thought much of it- a shadow dragon in their own domain wouldn't. It was home. Along the Plague border, under a tangle of thorny branches and thickets. It was dark, even for the Shadowbinder's territory, but it was made in Mother's image- the light hurt their eyes and the dark, though... unnatural, felt comforting and safe. The goop they had gotten into was probably just sap, but it aggressively stuck to their scales and claws and it seemed to take any opportunity to spread further as they desperately tried to wipe it off. It exhausted them. It drained the energy from their body, to the point of dizziness, and so they had opted to just... take a nap.
And then they were here.
Had they gone blind? Had Mother taken their vision as a joke- was this to be in shadow forever?
They had not seen the silhouette in the dark.
If you squinted and stared, you could almost make out a shape. That there even was a shape there was debatable, but it spoke. It was godly, they knew that much. It's voice- no, the noise it made-- It was grating, loud and booming. They couldn't help but cover their ears and grovel before the Deity. It welcomed them to the Event Horizon, where things ceased to be. It told them that they were destined to be a part of something bigger, to join the Shade. "There are more of us than you know. You've stumbled across us before." It was all so much. They clawed and bit and screamed. The shape reached down and gently cupped their form, and they could feel their energy leaking away. Their wings drooped and beat weakly as they weakly thrashed to get away.
And then, they woke up.
They felt... Empty. Incomplete. Hungry.
They couldn't remember who they were, or what their name was. They decided to name themself Shade. It wad the only thing they could remember. But that didn't matter. They were hungry. They needed to eat. Crawling out of the grove they began unofficially calling home, Shade slinked away into the forest of shadow and luminescent mushrooms, desperately praying and hoping to find something to find something to replenish their magic and satiate their hunger.
The Shade was so hungry.
A note written on a tattered, dirty half-scrap of parchment. The handwriting is messy chicken-scratch, with some words emphasized with deep pen scratches that nearly rip the paper. There is a deep black slime over some of the words, rendering them illegible. The latter half of the letter is completely unreadable. Shade wrote:
Hello to my old clan. Or one of the clan I stayed with. I dont think you guys knew I was there but I was :). I am V̶E̵R̶Y̵ ̸ sorry that I ate those eggs. I was hungry and they are so full of M̸A̵G̷I̴C̵ ̶. i did not know eggs could rot! I did not know it would spread either. If I had known that I probably would not have eaten them. Hearing the mother scream and cry and S̶C̴R̶E̷A̸M̷ ̴ that her eggs were gone was very distressing and I left after that. I still feel sad when I think about it. But the eggs were yummy :). I am also very sorry for my P̴R̵E̸A̴C̶H̶I̷N̸G̵!! i thought you all would enjoy to hear the word of the █̶̨̝́̓͝█̷̤͕̆̈́͠ͅ█̴͙̫̗͋͑█̵̞͙̬̎̚█̶̫͌̐͑█̴͔̻̒█̸̨̐͒█̷̯̼͓͊̈́̚█̵̧͚̅ but i guess N̴O̷T̶. it is the true way! i swear it!
