Biography
"Let's go punch the tentacles off something!" Nisi said.
Frig assumed the ridgeback meant a lighthearted trip to the coast, surely. Completely counter to experience, she HAD hoped that the pile of leaves that walked like a dragon found space in her thoughts for something--anything!--other than the portal which was meant to be FORBIDDEN, but that had been pure silliness.
No, neither wisdom nor hope found Frig in time before her intensive "training" began in one of the most dread places in Sornieth. Relatively tiny Whortles bounced and whirled and was nearly, almost always, in just the right spot to block the attacks of the nightmares that poured forth. Nisi scratched and leapt, tackling named horrors with strength and no small amount of finesse. The promised tentacles piled up as flying monkeys, giant frogs, and strangely aggressively jaunty llamas waded into the fray, and time ceased to hold all meaning.
Well, it seemed as though time no longer held meaning, but there certainly continued to be an awful lot of it. Frig swore to the Earthshaker himself and on every tiny pebble near the portal that if she ever made it back to the Refuge intact, she would never go out fighting again. Oh, she learned a great deal about positioning her claws and choosing her targets well, but the power to follow through never manifested. She cowered behind the fluffy blue shield of a tundra and thought back on simpler, happier times, before she had grown into her eyebrows.
Maybe Vipera still had a line on those items that would lift the burden of fighting off her wings? Not that she was not grateful for the training, she was immensely grateful that because of this work flying monkeys did not figure into the daily lives of those she lived with and loved, but the grueling task was more than she could handle.
Something wriggly and recently liberated from its owner flew past her field of vision. "Oh, that one was EXTRA juicy!" Nisi exclaimed, and Frig vowed to never follow her anywhere ever again.
