"Oh, Lightweaver. You do like to make things difficult, don't you." An agile and soft-spoken bookbinder. Follower of the Lightweaver. Small, gentle, and soft like down. Loves to look out at the ocean. Collects blue things. Friends with Rue, who likes to fiddle with her bookbinding tools - exasperating her to no end. | xxxxxxxxxxxx |
A young veilspun steps cautiously over cobblestone roads, careful not to drop her stack of books. Stringed lights hang between buildings, giving the evening a welcome warm glow. Faint music can be heard coming from the plaza. It's the quiet part of town - away from the markets and the harbor. Rows of buildings stretch up the hill. She makes her way up the steep incline, coming to rest at the end of a quiet street. She sets down her books on a cement railing, taking a moment to catch her breath. The velvety dark tomes contrast greatly with the chipped white paint. The day she first came to the tower, having stopped at this same spot, the sky was a bright pane of blue. She could sit here for hours, she'd thought: perching on the railing overlooking the ocean. These days, she's too busy...but maybe she'll find some time tomorrow afternoon. |
In a letter addressed to her parents, she wrote:
A letter arrives, dated July 2, 2022.
It reads:
Hello, mother. Hello, father. I hope this letter finds you in good health.
I know this is sudden, but I have decided to settle down away from the Lightweaver and my fellow acolytes. It's not too far from home, so I hope you'll be able to visit.
The reason why I moved? Well, I happened upon a curious place--what appeared to be a library under development that was not uniquely Light in design. It seems that a group of island citizens have come together with the merdragons and wish to construct a building to house texts that document their culture and chronicle the story of their exodus.
The library tower has no official name, but they call the surrounding area 'The Cove'.
Some of the northern fjord think their venture will devolve into (in their words) "a useless tower full of squabbling academics", but I saw the passion in their eyes. With help and guidance from more experienced dragons, they could make their archive a reality.
I offered up my skills as a bookbinder, and left The Beacon of the Radiant Eye with the Lightweaver's blessing. We're staying in a small tower they've rented out while the real thing is under construction.
My bedroom window has a view of the ocean. It reminds me of the goddess - and of home.
