Biography

Background

Fidget lives up to his name. Glue him down and he'd find a way to fidget. A common complaint of his is itchy spines, probably due to the small poison glands under each spike.

History

Fidget was a bit surprised to have been chosen for adoption by another clan so quickly, and was excited to see what his new life would be like.

However, almost immediately after his arrival to the Ash Blossom Clan, his uncontrollable fidgetiness started causing numerous little accidents around the clan territory. His new clan mates generally responded to each spilled supply basket or broken pot with patience and encouragement, but Fidget couldn’t help but feel guilty that he couldn’t seem to cause anything but trouble for the dragons who had welcomed him to their home.

One day, when he was just old enough to be allowed out on his own, Fidget had slipped away in embarrassment after another incident in which he had nearly sent one of his clanmates sprawling into a thorn patch. He was meandering aimlessly along the coast when he happened upon a wandering sales-dragon who declared theatrically that he was offering magic crystals that could “cure whatever ails a dragon”. This immediately caught Fidget’s interest, as he had heard that his clan mate Belladonna had been gifted an enchanted gem necklace by her mate Caspian that helped her control and augment her magical abilities. When the young Pearlcatcher eagerly asked the sales-dragon if the crystals could help soothe his itchy spines and calm his temperament, he had given a winning smile and assured that they could.
Fidget was so excited that he bought a whole set of the bright green gems.

All of his clan mates were very impressed and complimented him on his impeccable fashion sense when they saw him wearing his shining new jewelry, but, much to Fidget’s disappointment, the gems hadn’t had any of the desired effects.

That’s not to say that they didn’t have any effect at all, though. It would seem that the jewels did have some sort of enchantments cast on them, but rather than soothe his ailments, it seemed that they had amplified his innate spark of Nature magic that all dragons born within the Gladekeeper’s realm possessed. The morning after he had donned the gems, he awoke to find that a ring of daisies had sprouted from his head. His clan mates were delighted and amazed, particularly the other Nature dragons- who congratulated him for achieving such a feat at such a young age, and said that he must be some kind of magical prodigy. Fidget didn’t really understand their enthusiasm; however, as he thought that the daisies poking up over his forehead were little better in the itchiness department than his spines.

Still, after seeing how happy his clan mates were, Fidget couldn’t bring himself to take the jewels off. Okay, well, maybe it wasn’t just because of his clan mates. Call it stereotypical Pearlcatcher vanity, but, as much as he may have complained, Fidget was starting to like the image of his self bedecked in daisies and gleaming peridot. Whenever he happened to catch a glimpse of his reflection in a puddle or pool, he felt a swell of confidence.

The truth was, Fidget was actually rather content, and felt relieved. As time went on - even though his twitchy, itchy tendencies hadn’t changed - his clan mates didn’t seem to have any problem accepting him for who he was and celebrating his accomplishments.

Shortly after getting his footing in the Clan, Fidget had taken a liking to a Nephrite Chameleon that often lounged about around the Clan insect stores, and he had even kept the lazy little lizard as his familiar for a good while. Watching the creature’s gems gradually change color had a calming effect on Fidget, though admittedly this effect was minimal.

Current

After the occurrence of the many world-rending events that had come to be known as the Bounty of the Elements, Fidget just so happened to be one of the dragons whose eyes underwent a transformation as a result of the intensification of magical energy across the Eleven Flights. Many would agree that his vivid green new eyes were quite striking, and would find this an enviable development. But alas, it wasn’t merely an aesthetic change, but actually altered his vision in a way that made light and color appear more intense. Fidget still finds this very disorienting, and can now often be seen twitching and rubbing at his eyes in between scratching at his spines.

Also, Fidget has begun to actually shed flower petals - the way some dragons shed old, loose scales. Clusters of petals now flake off and whirl about with each scratch.

And so, while some of his clan mates are still convinced that these new developments are further proof that Fidget is some sort of eccentric genius; Fidget, for his part, is even twitchier and itchier than ever. Poor Fidget.
