Fern used to be a hard-working and valuable Sandsurge, always praised for her efficiency. But she grew tired of the never-ending work, becoming more and more dissatisfied, until she quit. But cutting ties with her job meant cutting ties with her peers, leaving behind the environment she grew up in.
It wasn't easy, being all on her own. A few times she considered seeking out the surface-dwellers, but she didn't know how they would react to her emerging from the ground. She decided to remain in the tunnels, afraid they would be hostile.
One day, she met a like-minded Sandsurge. Asparagus was disowned by his family, and he too wandered alone. But unlike her he had already met the surface dragons, and assured her that they were nice. Together they started their own family, free from the pressure and constant work that they disliked so much.
