Lore:

Alyssum had been sickly since they were a hatchling, their siblings got to run, leap and play in the tall grass of the Zephyr Steppes, in which the small family lived, they were told to sit in the cave and pray that the wind god would heal them. Their siblings were strong and playful and would try to include Alys in their games, often their mother would stop them even when Alys was having a day of strength, after many times their mother stopped them, they eventually ceased asking. Oh, how Alys wished to join them, to leave the cave that was their gilded cage.

In the years to come Alyssum’s sickness begane to take the use of one of their legs, their already weak body started to fail. Alyssum’s mother got even more overprotective and their siblings were not allowed to see them in fear of getting them further sick and in the words of their mother, helpless.

Alyssum begane to slip away in the dark of the night, their already light footsteps hidden by the howling wind, they were eventually joined by a small white hare, they nicknamed Clover. Alys often ventured to the Reedcleft Ascent, they’d clime the reeds and jump the cliffs, if their mother knew where they were, it would be hell to pay, Reedcleft Ascent is a very dangerous place to any young dragon let alone a sickly youngling with a maimed leg, nevertheless it was their haven.

Laughing and singing carried by the wind reached Alyssum’s ears, Alys decided to follow it into the shadow of the Couldsong, the Night Market sat where it hadn't been before, wisps of smoke carried with the wind curled around the legs of those who entered, the sent of baked goods, greased armor and perfume swirled around the area. A campfire sat at the center dragons of all breeds and flights danced, sung unknow melodies:

One life to be lived, a life steeped in war,
Mortal years passed, empires rose and fell,
Yet my warrior’s bloodthirst could not be quelled,
He slaughtered and fought, untethered still,
Alone and unwavering, the man on the hill,
Ancient one, lonely one, come rest your head,
I’ll hold you gently, safe in death’s grasp,
I smile upon you, my weathered champion…

Come ancient wanderer, come home,
This is your hour,
Then one day, my lost soul claimed a friend,
One soaked in bloodshed who fought for no man…
( Ballad of the Lonely - Mumza's Melody. )

The song was both haunting and beautiful, one of the dragons perched on a log spotted Alyssum standing off to the side listing to the songs called them over,

“Hey! Youngling, you over there, yes you, come join us”

Alyssum slowly limped over, Clover following.
The group was large and and many of the dragons there had scars or weapons on them, the imperial that had called them over spoke first,

“Youngling, why are you here alone? This place is dangerous, and you don't look too well, that leg especially.”

Alys thought before answering…

“My mother sees me as weak. I wish to be strong so I climb the Reedcleft Ascent most nights, mother refuses to teach me to fly so I glide, she refuses to teach me to play so I fight and she’ll eventually refuse to let me to leave and so I’ll leave. I may be weak of body but I’m strong of mind, and I’m a child of the Windsinger. In my very soul I know that if she tries to cage me with her love, I’ll leave.
I Will Live How I Wish To Live.“

“Well young one if you ever need a home, come find me in the Tangled Wood you will be granted a home. And while I’m staying here I shall teach you to have the mind of a shadowling and the fighting grace of a proper Warrior of Wind. Let us begin.”

For many moons the Imperial who's name turned out to be Erebus and Alyssum met at the Singer's Brook, many a time Alys would run and jump as fast as their sick body could go and barely make it home before dawn, this went on for a year until Erebus had to return to the Snakes Labyrinth, on his last day there be gifted Alys an old tome and told them…

“When you leave this place, if you wish to heal, search for knowledge of the Viridian plant. It is said those who ingest the seed will become something else, it can heal the sick, you must be strong and sure, if you falter you will die.

Goodbye Child of the Wind, we will meet again.”

Erebus then took to the skies and vanished into the night.

The seasons changed and Alyssum grew into a beautiful dragon, and as thought their mother grew worse and worse, Alys’s siblings left home and Alys was still locked in their Gilded Cage, Alyssum read tome after tome and found knowledge of the very same plant Erbus told them about;

The Pact of the Viridian Plant, a heavy tome filled to the brim about the treacherous journey only done by Pearlcathers to become Pearl Cerdae, the pact changes one irreversibly and is an unbreakable oath. The seed begins to grow within the body gifting them immunity to poisons, the hind legs become hooved and flora begins to sprout and over time their wings will begin to wither, some retain their rotted and stunted wings while most wilt and fall off.

It eventually became too much for Alyssum, their mother was starting to shove obviously fake herbal remedies down their throat, some Alys thought might have been poison.
And so they left just like they said to Erebus on their first meeting.

A year had passed and Alyssum was finally getting close to the Viridian Labyrinth having made it to the shadow/nature border Alys began their swim, after many years they were still unable to fly — as they were never taught. The water was freezing the current strong after nearly being dragged under water many times they made it to the wooden dock, the sun was high in the sky, Alyssum was tired from the swim but trudged on — the cold water was making their leg throb and their breathe come out in short coughs. Alyssum slowly limped past the Wild Sanctum and the hundreds of colorful blooms that lined the grass, finding a root of the Behemoth that they used to cross the river, Alyssum had entered the Shrieking Wilds.

After stopping to rest and eat what food was left in the satchel, Alyssum took a deep breath and sprinted into the forest — leaving Clover and their bag, ignoring the pain in their leg and chest, Alys could feel eyes watching as soon as they entered, so they quickly climbed the closest tree and began jumping from tree to tree never once touching the ground, dodging vines, jumping over and under branches, scaring a flock of Zalis, but even as Alys ran faster then they had ever ran before the feeling of being watched continued.

A melody only Alyssum could hear flooded the forest, the Viridian Plant was near, Alyssum’s body began to move on its own changing direction, the sound grew louder and louder. Suddenly they jumped into a clearing, a ring of flowers and thorns around the edges in the center the Viridian Plant a small tree with low hanging seeds flowers, moss and vines intertwined around the trees trunk, with control of their body again the began to step forward however their leg fell out from under them, they fell to the ground knocking the air out of their lungs and setting them into a coughing fit. Body shaking with pain Alyssum forced their body to stand and slowly limped to the tree grabbing a seed and threw it into their mouth and swallowed, the change began immediately, Alys’s leg began to heal, as did their lungs, Hind legs becoming hoved and strong, their already weak and untrained wings began to wither and wilt immediately, lastly countless green and purple blooms both poisonous and herbal grew out of Alyssum’s frame. Their body trembled in pain from the transformation their body began to rapidly heal, eye sight, hearing and smell became stronger.

A rustle in bush alerted its arrival a Dwarf Unicorn, the unicorn strutted over to Alyssum and helped them up and the journey to Erebus’ clan began, Alys ran, ran and ran some more going faster than they had ever gone before leaving the wilds behind only stopping to grab their satchel, Clover asleep within. Once they reached the dock they didn’t stop running and jumped over flowing rapids onto some logs that were floating down stream till they made it across the water into the Tangled Wood, they found the Asp’s Ruin easily enough. Entering the Ruin they were guided by three dragons – a jade veilspun covered in butterflies, golden jewels and bright red roses she had a small calm smile, a driftwood coloured skydancer decked out in armor and weapons her piercing ice blue eyes glaring daggers and a gold and pink imperial with a dazzling smile he had eight wings two being feathered and feathers where his ears would be. He nodded and motioned to follow and so Alyssum did.

They entered the tower Erebus sat on a marvelous obsidian throne, four dragons sat to his right an empty chair next to him the a brown skydancer, a blue obelisk, a blue fea and a orange skydancer, they all stood and lowered their heads.

“Welcome, Alyssum of the Pearl Cerdae to the Snake’s Labyrinth, welcome home youngling. Take your seat.” Erebus gestured to the chair next to him, Alyssum slowly stepped up to the chair and finally sat. And so it was Alyssum was home.
