Aurelia looked upwards towards the sky, slowly counting her breath. Any time now, the lanterns, drifting in from the festivals in the city, would arrive, lighting up the dreary darkness with a charming and soothing presence. In years past, Aurelia had simply enjoyed the annual show from her humble abode, a small rock cavern on the outskirts of Sunbeam Ruins, taking in the moment to bask in the rays of light before returning to her world of darkness. This year, though, it was different. She had resolved, months ago, that she was going to escape this desert rock prison once and for all. The magistrate would be off to the capital for official business once the lanterns had been released, and she would then have about a week's time to act. Soon, she would be free, free to fly the skies and feel the wind ruffle her wings, free to reunite with her brother and family, free to once again bask in the glory and warmth of the sun.
