Baikal came from the Southern Icefields, born alone as his nest was abandoned by his parents. While he was raised by an Ice clan that found him as a vulnerable hatchling, he became listless at the thought of finding a real home. Finding his parents was the initial motivation, but that proved impossible. Or rather, impossible unless he would resign himself to laying down next to their graves. Now entirely without a cause to tie him down, he left the Icefields to the mainland, traversing across multiple territories and barely scraping by enough to survive.

When in need of a guide to cross the Shifting Expanse he met his Raptorik companion, who initially only agreed to accompany him until his excursion in the lightning-scorched territory. The two became close as they shared a kinship with one another as wandering souls, and when Baikal finally found his way into the Sunbeam Ruins the two did not separate. The odd duo stumbled into Marblechurch by sheer accident, though once they proved not to be malicious intruders they were offered a place to stay. The Raptorik took to hunting small animals that intruded into the towering church. Baikal utilized his experience scavenging for scraps to find baubles and valuables to offer to the angels for their nests, and his livelihood as a Night Priest member is earned through rummaging through abandoned ruins and recovering any objects of value or practical use.

He can be quite secretive and lonesome at times, but does what he can not to let that permeate too much into his everyday life. His companion and the angels are the only ones he speaks freely with.
