shrewd, keen, and private, ryr is a charm seller and smallspell, a mage of little power but cheap prices. in her youth she was apprenticed by a carpenter but financial disaster ended the business and put ryr's own family on the streets. she started learning magework then, and applied it to her skills of wood carving. now, at mango pirate, she carves and spells small cheap amulets and charms for shoppers on all canyon tiers, claiming they'll give the buyer protection from storms, cutpurses, misfortune, and the like. in reality the charms do none of that, at most prevent a scraped toe, but there's a hint of beauty to their rough shape and provides the customer with a sense of safety and relief. that's the best anyone can do, really, she'd tell you with a shrug. unless you want some real fancy magic from some wizard—only cost you your life savings! she laughs

age and experience lends her a dry, unruffled view of the world. she's not afraid of the cellar and all its filth. she gives the attic a wary eye, but knows as long as she doesn't poke her snout into their business, they won't poke into hers neither

has a raspy, broken voice from years of shouting her offered items and prices in the crowded day market on the bedrock, but she retains the volume

given her number of years both at the canyon and in the trade, she frequently gets youngsters asking after apprenticeships. she scowls at them and runs them off, but any who creep back and simply sit back and watch as she carves are welcome to be ignored, 'long as they don't try to make conversation

she did at one point hire a cellar gang to thrash her wood supplier after he threatened to cut her off when she refused to pay a ridiculous hike in prices. her tough, take-no-bs attitude's given her a bit of reputation among certain circles, affording her a further level of protection in the canyon. don't mess with her, she won't mess with you. civil-like. the golden rule, baybee
