Lineage

Biography

The sun slowly set in the sky, painting the earth in warm orange and red hues, it was a signal to Elaina that she and her dad, Whitestone, had been out hunting for quite a while. Much to their delight it had been a successful hunt with the both of them carrying large sacks of prey thrown over their shoulders. Turning to her father she bumped him playfully.
“I bet we’ve got enough food to feed everyone in the city for weeks.”
Her father winced and rubbed his shoulder where she bumped him and Elaina was reminded she needed to remember her own strength.
“I’m sure we do, so much so I think you deserve to go back to the castle and be with your kids instead of running around the city.”
Quickly averting her gaze away from her father she turned her attention on to her beloved city that seemed to grow bigger as they got closer.
“Maybe… But I should do a quick sweep anyway to make sure no one needs my help first.”
Whitestone sighed a long drawn out sigh next to her but she knew he was smiling.
“My high knight daughter, always working for others but never herself.”
Feeling sheepish, Elaina looked back at her father and shrugged.
“Just doing my job.”
With a shake of his head he patted her gently and took the sack of food off of her, “While you go do your knightly duties I'll turn in all this food.” As he was turning to leave he looked back at her. “Don’t stay out too late, okay? Even strong knights such as yourself need their sleep.”
Thankful for her father’s loving doting she conceded.
“I promise I’ll be back at the castle before all the stars are in the sky.”
Finally satisfied he left, leaving Elaina alone in the brisk evening air. Taking in a long breath she stretched out her wings relieved to have the burden of all that food off of her back. With the whole night ahead of her and not a minute to waste she hurried towards the city.
Now wasn't it Mythalisk who said there was a new home being constructed?
Trying to remember the location she strolled down the street. In the city she knew all the twists and turns of the cobbled streets like the back of her talon, dragon's heading into their homes for the night waved as she passed, calling out friendly greetings everywhere she went. Contentment bloomed in her heart, being the head knight was oftentimes exhausting work but seeing all her fellow dragons made her remember why she loved her job. It wasn’t long before she saw the construction site that still had a long way to go, despite the darkening sky dragon's still worked tirelessly moving and placing stonework into place. One mirror dragon in particular seemed to be having a hard time moving a large stone and looked like they were about to drop it. Eyes widening, Elaina rushed over to grab it herself, relieving the dragon of the weight.
“Careful there Pumpkin, we can’t have you getting injured.”
Eyes lighting up the mirror dragon’s wings dropped in relief.
“Oh thank goodness you’re here Elaina, some dragon's who were supposed to help got sick so now we’re way behind schedule.” Pumpkin threw an exasperated gesture at the bare construction zone and sighed.
Guilt gnawing at her, Elaina tapped the ground with a talon, weighing her options.
I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to help out for an hour or two…
Then before she knew it she was lifting stones and cementing them into the place while the sky darkened overhead. It was physically exhausting but Elaina felt her mind calm with the thoughtless task of busy work. Hours passed and it wasn’t long before dragon’s at the construction site began to head home for the night, ready to see their families and rest from a long day’s work.
Has it really been that long already?
Raising her head to the sky she admired the beauty of the stars twinkling against the pitch black sky. Like someone took a black canvas and haphazardly splattered white paint all over it. Only the moon looked intentional in its placement. Jaw gaping in a huge yawn she rubbed at her eyes sleepily. Suddenly a dragon appeared next to her causing her to almost fall backs, wings flailing as she screeched in surprise.
With a chuckle the dragon spoke in his familiar voice, “I thought you said you would be home by the time all the stars were in the sky.”
Shocked to see her father standing next to her, she grappled for an excuse.
“Oh, um, Dad, well you see, I just got carried away, the dragon's working here got behind and…”
Whitestone cut her off before she could continue and smiled knowingly, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“I’m just messing with you Elaina, come on let's go home.”
Feeling a bit indignant of her father’s jump scare she grumbled silently to herself but followed him home nonetheless. Even though she wouldn’t let it show, secretly she was pleased he came to get her and she was looking forward to going to sleep. With a smile she cast one last look over her shoulder at the silent sleeping city.
Then I get to do it all over again tomorrow.
