Ruvik was never quite like the others of his clan. When his siblings would chase after Pocket Mice, he’d find himself organizing rocks by size, shape, color, and texture. When his father tried to teach him the best way to cut off a creature’s windpipe, Ruvik wanted to help his mother fold clothing and plan for dinner weeks ahead of time. He was calculating, intelligent, and organized.
He was… wrong.
He didn't fit in with how Mirrors were supposed to be. He didn't feel the draw of The Hunt the way he was “supposed” to. Eventually he grew tired of his family and clan’s unwillingness to understand, and left as soon as he was able to. He travelled across Sornieth until he came upon the boiling pits of the Flamecaller’s land. As the particles of ash and deep underground rumbling swirled around in his mind, he felt tingling along his spine. He knew he’d finally found home. The Hunt was over. |

And since then, he built a nest along the cliffs of the newly hardening crust, tucking it far into a cooled cavern, warmed by the flow of lava during the night and chilled by a constant steady breeze trickling in from the outside. Brown volcanic grasses lined the edges of it all, it's igneous rocks being broken apart by the sheer strength of it. He tends to forget those times, his eyes focus on the bustling clan in front of him. The ever present scents of them all melting into the craggy surface of the hardened area around them. It's one of his favorite smells. Knowingly he looks into the eyes of his closest Advisors and friends and he understands why he's forgotten. There is no reason to peer into the dark when your future is so bright. And it was looking brighter than it had ever been before. “Are you well, Master Ruvik?” He glanced towards the Ridgeback female regarding him with concern. “Should I fetch the Herbalist?” “No need Tundra, just thinking about old wounds.” “Very well sir.” |
