With the coming of the Strawberry moon, the witch Iqariel prepared two new dolls to join her collection. The beast, Haiku crouched in the shadows, his eyes gleaming like stars in the darkness as he watched inquisitively. The dolls were made of tightly woven wicker and the first was enrobed in layers of crimson string and laced with tattered scarlet feathers. The second was an earthen doll, covered in layers of mud, decaying bark and moss. Iqariel crafted each of her ‘children’ with care and when the full moon rose, she placed them amidst the runic marks of a great alchemical circle carved into the stone floor of her tavern. The light of the full moon shimmered through cracks in the weakly thatched roof as Iqariel finalized her preparations. Finally, when the moon had reached its peak, Haiku paced forth to inspect the witch’s work. As she commanded, he would bestow his own blessing upon the wicker dolls - several drops of tainted blood and a smattering of his own feathers. These too were woven into the dolls forms, and with them came a first breath of life. The first child born of the red doll was called Litha - a creature of midsummer. His form flickered like flames and black smoke trailed behind him. Iqariel’s gifts to him were the feathers of a phoenix and a red infinity string that granted him immortality. The second child was Mabon, named for autumntide. He was a beast of the earth and gifted with the bones and antlers of sacred creatures held together with dark clay and winding vines. Most considered him a forest spirit, capable of communicating with those animals and plants of the woods and beckoning them to his call. Iqariel smiled at her newest children with a dark grin before she set them free upon the world.
