Biography

Have you ever heard rustling in the toy bin? Or perhaps your hatchling describes their long conversations with their doll? Has unfortunate luck enveloped your lair?

You may have fallen victim to a Heartling, a type of Veilspun that evolved to resemble dolls to infiltrate nests and lairs undetected. Incubating nests are at particular risk since young Heartlings will actively find eggs and grow attached to a single newborn once they hatch.
Signs you have been invaded are poor luck and strange occurrences in the lair, sequestered and mischievous hatchlings, and memory loss. Heartlings will use their magic to sow chaos in a lair, as they feed from negative emotions dragons produce. If found out, they will hypnotize the witness and erase the memory of the encounter. With the combination of being masters of disguise and the deceptive magic they possess; it can be difficult to detect such creatures.
A Heartling will only reveal itself to the one wyrm it has attached to and do everything in its power to convince the young dragon that it is its only friend. However, it may show its true colors to an entire clan if the lair shares in its malevolent nature. Of course, the clan may never share the little dragon’s secret with any outside individual…
Heartlings will incubate eggs in any flight territory, but most will often find themselves within the shadow flight’s borders. Nests tend to be made with small clothing stolen from their host’s lair and are found in mushroom patches. The dragon who “owns the doll” will report it missing for a few days during this time. Heartlings will always return once their young have hatched.

If your hatchling has a favorite toy, make sure to inspect it, or ill times will fall upon your clan…
