Biography
BUDGE
PATRON OF TRAVELERS, ALMOST-LEADER
PATRON OF TRAVELERS, ALMOST-LEADER
RESERVED ♦ SHY ♦ LEVEL-HEADED
They each sit by the fire and share tales of the noble guardian, dark scales glinting harshly in the desert sun, that had come to their rescue as they perished among the sands.
Quiet and ponderous, Budge has never been a particularly clever or quick-witted dragon (but he has a lot of heart, his mother would say, laying a gentle palm across the top of his head as the other hatchlings gossiped). He's always been shy, always been solitary, but he still enjoyed knowing that his clan was always there to have his back. Wandering alone across barren plains never really suited him much. As an adult, the guardian had looked out across the desert and had been at an absolute loss. Every guardian had a charge, something to protect with their lives, something to devote themselves to, but in practice finding a charge had been a lot harder than his mother had always made it sound. He wandered for a long time, never brave enough to stray too far from the Expanse -- skirting warily around the lava flows of the Molten Scar, staring at his reflection for far too long in the pools along the Tsunami Flats -- aimless as the day he had left home. Then he had come across a single fae, a tiny speck almost indistinguishable from the ground beneath, and raised a wing between her and the sun as something clicked somewhere in the back of his mind. |
Budge considers all travelers across his domain (a limited stretch between Carrion Canyon and the Lightning Farm) to be his charge, something that would be a huge responsibility if many dragons really bothered to traverse the desert in the first place. Budge has a high tolerance for shenanigans and is extremely laissez-faire in the administration of his clan, but the one thing he'll put his foot down on is in-fighting. Luckily, he happens to be pretty big compared to most of the others and can physically defuse the situation. Almost every dragon in his clan has been rescued by him at some point, others had stopped for supplies and decided to stay -- either way his status as a patron and savior of travelers has caused a quite a number of over-exaggerated stories to circulate through the clan, which embarrasses him a lot. |
