Biography

They were young, and it was a golden summer.

They used to dance along to songs of the sea, to the beat of the waves crashing against boulders, and to the beat of the wind's playful squeals.

They were young, and it was a golden summer.

Stars danced across their claws and made their water sparkle with gold-red-orange-green-white. Stars danced across their eyes, gave them wings, and let them fly across skies of gentle azure. The stars were their friend.

All they had known was the sea, so wide and open, with tiny waves rippling across it. Or, sometimes, the sea, violent and raging, sorrow evident in every crash the waves made with the surface. They didn't mind. They found melancholy seeping into every fiber of their being, as they watched the sea. They mourned with the sea. Together, they were one.

They were young, and it was a golden summer.

They had sat by the shore, let the waves gently wash across their feet and let the warmth of the sand seep into their scales. They had loved the feeling of being, and though they didn't know why they were there, they simply was, and the world let them be.

It was a golden summer when they met their first friend. Another one of their kind, though one that didn't smile quite often. One that had electricity dance across their eyelids and power spark beneath their skin. He was their opposite, and he often called them someone who was lost in the clouds. They didn't mind. They liked his company - they didn't know anything else existed, before this.

He told them this, "My name is Riki."

And so they will remember the one whose name was Riki, the one that smelt of ozone. Riki came and went as he wished, often picking up shells in the sand and staring intensely at each and every one of them. They didn't understand, but they were...content, to just exist along with him. Riki told them it was because he wanted to learn more about them. (They felt an unfamiliar stirring in their chest when they heard this.)

They spent more and more time together. Sometimes, they just laid under the night sky; sometimes, they laughed and watched each other's stars dance across their skin.

"What is your name?"

They didn't know how to answer that question. After all, they've never had a name, or anything of the sort. They told Riki as such.

After a few moments of contemplation, he smiled, (something small and genuine and rare), and said, "Chizuru."

They tilted their head in confusion. Chi-zu-ru? Riki noticed, and laughed softly.

"Chizuru means a thousand cranes. Back where I grew up, if you folded a thousand cranes, you would get a chance to have your wish granted."

They looked at him, for the first time noticing unbridled admiration in his eyes. They- Chizuru smiled and thought, how could any dragon look prettier than Riki?

"I don't need a thousand cranes to see that the Eleven gave me you," Riki whispered, and Chizuru's heart burst into a tiny shower of stars. Riki's eyes were blue, so blue, so bright, so- they were lightning, and Chizuru was water, but they couldn't bring themselves to care so when Riki brought his snout up to theirs, they did the same and-

Chizuru was young, and it was a golden summer.

When they blinked, it was in a place near the city. They could still see the beach where they had resided.

Riki, Riki, Riki.

"Chizuru? Chizuru! CHIZURU!" They're nearly knocked off the bed they were placed on, and they looked up to see blue eyes that now held a tint of weariness. "You're here, Chizuru, god-"

Chizuru smiled at him the way they always did.

"I was never gone, Riki."

Riki sobbed into their chest, and they could only awkwardly pat his back to console him. They noticed the gold that decorated their claws now. They noticed the sparks of lightning around their head.

It was a golden summer when Chizuru left Riki.
