Biography

Clan Lore

The Shadowdust Clan was founded by two lovers, Maelon and Korey. They had left their homes in the Churnscar Wharf and set out for the Tangled Woods, believing it would be the perfect place to start their own clan. And it was, for a time. Until Maelon fell sick. She began acting aggressive towards those around her for no reason. Eventually, Maelon was taken down to the caves to sleep off her sickness and her adopted daughter, Agma, took in the mantle of clan leader. Korey left for the Sunbeam Ruins, believing he would find the cure for his lover's mysterious illness there. The clan continued to prosper for awhile, until the sickness struck again. This time, multiple members of the clan were affected.

To try to combat the illness, Anatasiya and Starburst put their engineering geniuses together to build a clock that was able to resist the sickness. In order to power the clock, Starburst gave up much of her energy and became severely infected. Anatasiya was left to train mechanics and power the clock. There were no more infections for a time. Then, one of the mechanics got infected. That shattered much of the clan's trust in the clock. Around this time, the correlation between living in the caves under the surface of the clan and being resistant against infection was made. There had been many members of the clan nearly exclusively living in the caves and none of them had ever gotten infected. The dragons that had been down there for treatment showed signs of improvement. After that discovery, the majority of the clan relocated to the caves. No one could decide if those that stayed on the surface were brave or crazy. Maybe both.

A few months after the cave migration, a light egg was found near the border with the Sunbeam Ruins. The clan decided to take the egg in, seeing as it appeared to have purposely been abandoned in the Tangled Wood. The egg hatched into a Coatl the surface dwellers named Dust. His affinity for light magic was astounding, even to those who were born and raised in the Sunbeam Ruins. They tried to teach him the best they could, but it was clear Dust's training would have to wait until Korey can back. To supplement his magic training, he was given whatever light magic tomes the surface dwellers could find.

Korey did eventually return about a year later, bringing along a trained spellcaster, Serasun. Serasun was around Dust's age, but had the benefit of being properly trained since hatching. Upon witnessing one display of Serasun's magic, Dust demanded to be allowed to train in the same discipline he had. So, Dust was sent to the Sunbeam Ruins.

During Dust's time in the ruins, Korey managed to cure Maelon. However, she was the only one he could cure. It was a different sickness than what had affected the rest of the clan. This sent both the cave dwellers and surface dwellers into a panic. Korey's efforts had been for nothing. When Dust finally returned, having taken on the name Seradust to celebrate his mastery of light, the clan was in total disarray. Seradust took initiative to reorganize the clan and stepped up as it's new leader. While in the Sunbeam Ruins, he had researched the disease his clanmates had contracted. He found that it was due to an increased presence of shade-touched creatures in the area. The shade-touched creatures would die and the particles would be decomposed into the soil, poisoning much of the food. Maelon had been infected by a shade-touched creature herelf and the cure for direct infection was known. The cure for ingestion of shade is different. The dragons inside the caves had been thriving because the food they scavenged and cultivated in the cave wasn't fertilized by infected soil. No one knew how to cure this type of shade infection, only how to soften it's effects. The clock had been able to prevent the shade particles from further spreading into the clan's territory, but Starburst's deteriorating state had rendered the clock useless and it was far too risky to hook another dragon to it.

Seradust knew the infection would only get worse if they stayed, so he made the decision to move to the Sunportal. This decision was, controversial to say the least. The cave dwellers generally supported it as the cave system extended to the portal and there would be less competition for cave space than before. The opinion between the surface dwellers was far more split. The Wisp Faction didn't mind the move, they just refused to move to the Sunbeam Ruins, which was an idea Seradust had thrown out. As long as their Shadow traditions were allowed to remain, they were fine. The Sun Faction was in full support of most of the decisions Seradust made and are some of Seradust's closest confidantes. The Stone Faction seems puzzling. They were against the move, but choose to come along anyway. They all give different reasons for staying with the clan, but they all believe that the move to the Sunportal was against the clan's best interests and some even believe Seradust is trying to sabotage the clan. Whatever the reason, they keep Seradust in check.
