Biography

Rex Rogue

Bounder was an original progenitor for the Tomyris lair. He became fast friends with StarLeap when the big Guardian male joined the lair. Bounder would help StarLeap out with his experiments, gathering supplies, running off curious hatchlings and generally hanging out and getting in the way. As StarLeaps experiments gained momentum he often would volunteer to be a dragon guinea pig, jumping through glowing hoops, completing exhaustive vertigo tests, then one day, disaster.

Bounder was helping out in the lab and StarLeap was running a new experiment. StarLeap felt like his work was finally going in the right direction, so he increased the power running to his new gadget. Sparks started flying, a small fire started in the heart of the machine on the table, frying circuit smoke filled the room and a white hot, piercingly bright light flared out of the machine, flashed over Bounder and flowed back into the machine like water. Bounder was gone...the machine continued to burn on the table and StarLeap howled for help, any help.

WaterBear was the first to hear his yell for help, run into the room, took one look at the machine burning and promptly grabbed a bucket of water and poured it into the heart of the machine. StarLeap flew at him and it was only WaterBears size advantage and his slow and steady retreat in the narrow lair tunnels that kept him from sustaining serious damage.

Oakwind stepped in with DelugeFlicker and took control of the situation. Under gentle questioning StarLeap explained that Bounder was gone, GONE and he did not know how to get him back. The readings from the machine were destroyed when it was doused in water. StarLeap paced and paced, muttering that he was lost, lost and he wasn't sure if Bounder was lost in space or time, or in the space between spaces.

StarLeap was encouraged by OakWind, DelugeFlicker and others to begin again, start where he started before, rebuild the machine, see what he could find out. StarLeap worked at it tirelessly, spending some of his frustration in the coliseum but always coming back to the folding machine and tinkering endlessly.

Time passed and the memory of Bounder faded for the rest of the lair, everyone assumed he was lost for good and hoped that at least, if he could Exalt, he could return home to serve and have dragon friends again. But, StarLeap could not let it go. He figured out how to manipulate gravity in a small field, moved time back and forth in a small local area...but none of his successes had the amount of power he felt would be needed to find and return Bounder. His frustration built until one day, in typical dragon fashion, he just threw all the lab power through the machine and waited.

The machine smoked and sputtered for days, crackling and popping but doing nothing extraordinary. The power drain started to effect the rest of the lair and DelugeFlicker was dispatched by OakWind to try and reason with the frustrated scientist. StarLeap pleaded and argued, convincing DelugeFlicker to let him make one final massive test. All the power in the lair was routed through the little machine sitting on the table and everyone jumped back when a iridescent light rolled out of the machine, bringing with it a wave of humidity, the smell of stinking rotted water and massive vegetation and one slightly burnt, scarred and totally furious Bounder.

Bounder true to his name, bounced out of the room, running full speed through the lair, threw himself into the sky and disappeared towards the Behemoth. CrystalDrift and RainWild were immediately on his trail. They watched him crash around in the Behemoth aimlessly for a week, flitting from one massive branch to the next, not talking, just aimlessly going up and down the big tree. Eventually, he took flight again, found a shallow pool in the Gladeveins and laid down in the water letting it flow over him for hours.

A month later he returned to the lair, with CrystalDrift following, while RainWild went ahead to tell everyone he was finally on his way home. He landed, went directly to StarLeaps lair, and wrapped his wings around his dejected friend, who was beginning to believe he had brought him home too late to be sane and whole.

The two spent days talking, eating, sleeping and just spending time together. They finally emerged to rejoin the lair in the main dining room, with Bounder greeting old friends, saying he would talk about his experiences eventually and that he had changed his name to MaybeSo, as a start on his new life. StarLeap informed the lair that MaybeSo was his Charge and he would be continuing his experiments at some point in the future, when he felt he had enough information to do it safely. The machine had been disassembled to prevent any accidents and the parts were under review.

MaybeSo changed his genes the next day, adding Poison for his Primary, selecting some gear from the main Apparel closet and settling back into his old berth. He began to tell stories of endless tunnels, massive vegetation, a dragonless world, volcanoes that spewed glowing cold rocks, water that burned, trees that uprooted themselves and moved, and predators both large and small. He quickly became a favorite of the hatchlings and young dragons and seemed to enjoy his popularity. But, every once in a while, he still sprints out of the lair, takes to the sky and disappears with StarLeap for days.

MaybeSo continues to mature and is now a steady and reliable member of the lair. He switched to Veilspun genes along with Oakwind so that they could continue to mate. He spends more time helping to run and organize the lair and has taken up sailing.
